  1. I had to replace my heater control globe plus the lighter globe. The lighter globe is an assembly and the globe can't be replaced. Cost me $24. Took me 3 atttempts to get the lighter assembly back together. Bad engineering, designed to keep this part from being fixed without spitting the dummy a few hundred times. Heater control has a black piece that has 3 bottom clips and 2 top clips. You need to remove the left hand cable first. Then you can get to the globes. All that work just to replace a globe.
  2. I had an auto sparkie tell me my 01 touring V6 alternator had a problem with the rectifier making a whistling sound. He recommended a new alternator as it was too much trouble or cost to rebuild the one I have. Mine doesn't produce enough voltage to keep the battery fully charged. I did my own timing belt change. Ordered a 11 piece kit off ebay in california that cost me $240 delivered to my door in Melton. Here the parts were over $600. I didn't do the water pump, as I would have had to remove half the engine to do this. I replaced the bearings that were supplied. After 160000 km the belt was in good condition.
  3. Yes and Toyota wanted to charge me >200 to replace the controls. They do not sell the globe socket separately.
  4. I have a camry 2001 touring with the same problem. I got an idea of where to look by John's pic, but couldn't read his english. I yanked the steering wheel left to make the noise, and tried several areas. The one that stopped the squeak was spraying lithium grease on the large seal that goes through the firewall. Just a short spray of grease. There are 2 shafts in that area, and that seems to have gotten rid of the squeak. Time will tell.
