  1. CarAdvice did a review on all new cars with poor visibility. The Corolla scores a 3 where the Commodore only 1. Anyone with a Corolla in here or any new car will kow that the pillars on either side creates a blind spot especially when going around corners or around round abouts. This must cause more car accidents. Most new cars all you see is the front windscreen and impossible to see the front of the car making parking a living hell and if a car is parked on either side of a thinish road then working out the distance between the two cars is only best guess. My older 1994 Corolla didn't have any of these problems. Why do they build them like this. Is it so there are more damage caused to the corners of the car so they the car companies can make money with constant repairs. I notice many new cars have scratch marks on the left and right front bumpers. And I notice I hit the curbs when turning every so often where on my old car I never hit any curbs. Its to hard to judge the distance between the front of the car and a curb. When parking now I take up two car spots an dpark n the middle as my car has been hiot a few times by other people with the same problem. I've since had cameras installed in the front and rear so when parking I can see the front and rear of the car. Most times I go out and a similar car is ahead of me I see them go up onto the curb when turning or going around round abouts. I've been driving for over 30 years. Never had a single crash but these new cars its only a matter of time. They've made the pillars wide to fit in the side air bags. Persinally I would prefer no side air bags and have thin piullars to see better.
  2. I owned a Toyota Corolla 1994 model and it went ratrher well until the last couple of years when the costs were $2300 then $900 and decided after that I would buyt a new one. Any way the Corollas of that era are pretty reliable. Could always ask RAC to come and inspect it for you before you buy. Most people when selling tend to get a RAC inspection to add value to the sale.
  3. Will Toyota ever make a 2litre Corolla Hatch ? My Toyota is the Corolla Hatch Auto bought December 2011 as what I thought was a new car. Its only 1.6 litre and gee wiz you can certainly see the difference in say a Ford Focus Hatch 2 litre which zooms up our steep hill compared to my car which struggles up the hill. My nephew has a Ford Focus and its quite good. Its lower down than my car so I would prefer the Corolla on that alone as its easier vwhen say turning left and a 4wd comes up to turn right I can then see throgh the 4wd windows to see if the road is clear. Why Can't Toyota do what the public wants. A 5 speed auto Corolla that is a 2 litre engine. Will we ever see a 2 litre model ? Are there any future plans ?
  4. Came across this Toyota video clip which is quite informative of what the new Toyota Corolla does. To get Sat Nav iot looks as though one must buy the sports models. The car is 30cm longet and 35kg lighter. They say the room in the back has 20cm more space and boot room is 75cm bigger but if that is the case is the front of the car shorter or am I missing something. The $130 full service I would question that as I was suppose to get that with my 2011 model Toyota. They send out a letter informing when I must bring it in. If I'm away or in my case my father was dying and then died and I had more important things to do they wouldn't accept that I couldn't bring it in and I had to wait a further 6 months before my next service. Wouldn't it be a better system to have say 2 of these $130 full service at any time during the year instead of being forced to bring it in on their time schedule which may not suit the customer for personal reasons. This to me damaged their good will and when my car goes past their warranty I will take my car to a non toyota dealer for repairs.
  5. New Toyota Corolla Auto Hatch video clip. Toyota done a road test or someone has but no audio explaining what all the insdie gadgets do. The car looks lower to the ground than my 2011 model car. It has a Car GPS Sat Nav and a reverse parking camera and looks better at the back than tne 2011 model. And if I was buying now I would get the 2011 model car just because its higher up and easier to see through 4wd windows when turning left or right. The newer model has a clip against a 4wd and it appears to only see the door alkong side which is what my older Toyota did. So if I am turning left at an intersection and a 4wd pulls up along side me and is turning right I can at least see through the 4wd windows to see if the road is clear. I also prefer the front of the 2011 model to the latest model which looks like it has a spiling face at the front of the car. Its probably been asked but why can't they build a 2 litre one of these and why can't they go back to the automatic design on the gear box where it was straight up and down with a lock on each gear so it can't be accidently moved or knocked into another gear when driving. And why can't they build a car that shows the tyre pressure or even have a gadget that if the tyre pressure gets low that it could put more air into the tyre.
  6. Found myself a dashboard nav gps plus has front and rear cameras and can record. Think I will get this as people with corollas will know its very hard when backing due to the blind spots near the back where instead of glass they have these wide pillars which I for one find annoying. I'll attach the back camera to the back of the car so when reversing I can see it on the neat touch screen. It records speed, gps location and the road out in front and at the rear which is better than the carcam I use now. It has wifi too for surfing the net so ticks all the boxes. I've placed an order and should have it in the next week or so then I will review it.
  7. Thanks for postihng. Yes I have the same square area to put the gps nav in like you have done. Will check these out too. Hoping their will be new year sales on soon. There is so much dashboard room in the modern cars I'm a bit surprised more do not make gps or carcams that stick on the dashboard.
  8. I have a car cam that keeps on falling off the windscreen and the only way to hold it there for any length of time is Blu-Tac. I get the feeling none of these suction caps work to well. Always see people that have pulled over on the side of the road trying to re fix the suction cap on the windscreen. Don't know why they can't make them with stands to stand up on the dashboard. Plenty of dashboard room to place these carcams or gps on as are most modern hatch back cars that I've seen. Thanks for the links. WIll go check them all out.
  9. Must say the air conditioner is a tad weak on these 2011 corollas. In Perth it gets rather hot and I hvae to have the woindow down for a few mins while the air conditioner gets cold enough. I have to have my fan on 3 or 4 because 1 or 2 is just to weak to use.
  10. That's a nice colour car. I asked about any new models that were coming in 2012 when I was buying in Dec of 2011 and they said no new models coming so I bought then. In April a new model gets released but looks like teh one I had and then the new Corolla announced in recent times. I prefer the front of the my 2011 corolla to the new one which looks like a smiling face on the front. The back of the new model looks better thnan mine but the car looks a lot lower so overall I prefer my model car to that of the new model car. Many that I know with our cars that are auto's all say it takes time to get used to the manual style stick on the automatic. Would be much easier if it was lower and staright up and down with the gears over the indents they have. It took me a long while to get used to this. At night I had to turn the cabin light on just to see which way the gear box went to get it down to R or D from the park position.
  11. On page two of their manual that comes with a car threre is a pre check suppose to be carried out by the sales manager of the dealer group to inspect the interior and outside the car and then signed. This wasn't carried out. I only noticed the paint stains inside the car door when I got home an dthe family spotted it inside the car. I then complained for a few months and about that time my Dad who had Alzheimers was getting quite bad and passed away mid yeasr so my mind was elsewhere during this period. During tis time they wanted me to bring the car in for a checkup but I was at my Dad's bedside for many days while he was dying. A few months later I contcated them to get iot serviced, they said no so I went elsewhere and other dealers would not touch the car until later this month. I explain what had occured and they did not care. Toyota Australia must have this weird policy with new cars that we new owners must bring it in on a certain time period and there are no excuses. And Toyota an dthe dealer group everytime I bring up the part about the paint stains or the slash in the car tyre completely ignore these points. We've had our cars services with them for 20 years an dthey do this to us. We;ve since found another Toyota dealer that we will send our cars to for servicing. They are Nedlands Toyota and seem to be very good. If I was buying again I would buy from them. Here is the paint stain inside the car door. As you can see its pretty bad and I can't believe they won't replace it or do anything about it. As you can see there are also scratch marks along the side where the car door open lever is and teh whole panel is a grey colour when it should be black like the other 3 doors. The car door looks like its a used car door from another car. No point in me trying to go to the tv news media because 7 and 9 have tv adverts on Toyota cars. My best bet would b ethe 7-30 report. Tried ACCC a few time and department of commerce but no one interested. I'd name them in here but fear I may get banned so won't post the dealer group. All the dealers all seem to sell at retail and will never budge from the price. A tip for anyone buying never ever sign that agreement that they try on you for the first time you look at a car as its an agreenment with them to buy a car. Then thewy can play silly buggers by upping the price. I know this happened to my physio but he got out of it by going to his lawyer as the dealer made many mistakes on the contract. If I was ever to buy a ne wcar again I would take a hidden camera to record all their lies so its not their word against yours. I used to get my cars art government auctions where the government would sell their new cars when only 2 years old and often the cars had only done about 25,000 km butr they changed it to 4 or so years and many been driven into the ground so this tiem went for a new car. Didn't occur to me that the dealer we've had our cars services for 20 yeas would lie through their teeth the way theyt've done. Live and learn I guess. I've at least recorded some of their fibs in emaisl and my lawyer at one pojnt got involved and they agreed to give me a third set of car keys. When I emailed to say I was coming in I then asked what about the paint stains and the response from them was quite nasrty where they said they could not give me a third set because they had already given me a third set when I picked up the car which is a down right lie. They've lied to my lawyer as well. They lost my business and told this to many others who have pulled their business away from them. Good will is everything in business and in thr age of the blog its a very silly thing for them to be doing.
  12. We purchased it second hand (2005/06 YRX Model) (we are the second owners) however it came with 1 set of keys with the alarm on it and 1 normal key. They had a third party alarm installed on it (by the dealership) I know I know, wtf right? but I have all the receipts. Anyway, that alarm caked it so we are just using the oem one. To be honest I haven't heard of anyone getting 3 sets of keys, maybe in the old days, I remember my 2000 Corolla had 2 sets of keys with 2 alarms and 1 spare key. The two newer cars I've had, 2006 Honda Jazz and my 2009 Honda Accord Euro, both had 2 sets of keys with alarm, keeping in mind it's a 45k car too! You should have got two sets of car keys with it with immobilizer. The dealer always has a third or fourth as a backup key in case its lost. One of the conditions was to get a third set of car keys but they renegged at the last moment. When I went in with a bank cheque they had changed their minds and said my trade in car was ionly worth $1500 and not thre $3000 even though I signed the contract. I asked for thre contract and I'll go to the accc. They the sales lady then went to the manager to do that routine they do(probably talkedf about something entire different). I noticed they were laughing in the office and I was about to leave in disgust and they then came out and said the manager wants the sale and I would get the $3000 for the car. The sales lady used the term playing with the numbers for the price ogf the car which was an odd thing to say. If I had my time again I would have bought elsewhere as the car had paint steins inside the car and a deep cut to the tyre which they refuse to do anything about. I suspect if I name them in here I'll be banned from this good forum so won't do that.
  13. So you would rather not have the alarm for when you decide to have a kid up the front to warn you that he hasn't put his seat belt on or he has taken his seat belt off? Putting groceries on the floor may help. I already do that along with the back of the hatch. Anything on the seat sets off the alarm. I have a towel in my car to wipe of the sweat and that is enough to set of the blasted alarm. Do they really think a small human weighs as light as a small towel. Its really silly how its been set up. I have to have all my back seat seatbelts connected otherwise beep beep beep even though at times nothing is on the seats. I notice others do that as well where the seatbelts are all connected. The car is to small to have anyone sit in the back anyway. I'm over 6 feet tall so have the seat further back than most. Don't have any small kids to worry about. All grown up now. And who gets in a car without putting the seat belt on first anyway.
  14. One gripe I have with the car is that it has seat belt warnings even though not one is sitting in the other seats. You ojnly have to have a small bag of groceries on the seat and beep beep beep and the alarm get seven more annoying the further I go. Now I have all teh seat belts in even when no one is in the seats. Wish there was a button that could be pressed to turn that annoying alarm off. My car seems to automatically lock itself if away from the car for more than 30 seconds. And if key is in ignition and I open the car door an alarm goes off which is a good thing to have. I like it when I go tro get out of the car the light inside the cabin stays on until I press the auto log button on my immobilizer. Or when I get into the car the cabin light stays on long enough to get the key in to start the car. There is also a orange glow around where to put th ekey in which is a great idea. The fuel economy on my cart seems very good for such a heavy car. The tyres on these ascents are quite large. I have the trip computer set to how many km it has to go before it runs out of petrol. The other buttons for temp and so on doesn't make much sense to me. The Yaris has a nice GPS Nav where the Corollas of last year didn't and for the big price difference one would expect the corolla to have the gps nav too. How many sets of keys did they give you with immobilizer with your Yaris ? Your suppose to get three sets. I was only given two sets and they said I would have to pay $300 for another set. Someone making a lot of money pout of all this.
  15. I've always found any leather seats to be annoying on a hot day when wearing short pants. Legs always stick to the leather. Don't like that. I prefer fabric any day of the week over leather. I guess it depend if yuo live in Perth or Adelaide to those that live in the cooler climates like over east:) It's a drawback, but my car is generally kept undercover so it never gets too hot, with climate control on I never have those issues :) What's this climate control button in your car please? My Corolla has these temp buttons but never taken that much notice of them. I see it as pointless knowing what temp the car was inside but if it does something special that maybe worth knowing. The car manual isn't that well wrtitten. Don't suppose there is a pdf doc I can download to find more what my car can do ? My car is generally is the garage but due to the width of the car I tend to keep it out more than in. Only if there is a storm around I'll put it in the garage. My 2011 Corolla is quite a wide car and thankfully the outside mirrors can fold in by pressing a button otherwise I'd never squueze the car in. Sorry I drive a Honda Accord Euro :P The only Toyota I own now is my mums Yaris I had a look at the Yaris which looked quite a good car but the speedo in the middle put me right off.
  16. Have a look at LED foggies which will last many years longer and save your car battery. I too have a 2011 ascent corolla and I find the headlight really brighten up not only the road ahead but the side path which is really impressive. I'm in Perth so really no need tpo have them. Notice to many cars with them as it is. Soem light up to much of the road and almost blinding on coming traffic. If buying make sure they are ce and c ticked certified. I can see many being forced to remove fog lights due to them lighting up both sides of the road. My old corolla headflights was a small tunnel vision up ahead but my new 2011 corolla really does light up the road a fair bit. And the beam one well, wow it light sup everything as far as i can see.
  17. Its a LED globe revolution. We have them in the house and the power bills are so much lower due to all the wattage we save. Wonder how long it will be when they use only LED lights on the cars and inside the car. Maybe then we'll see a smaller car battery which will save room where some other fancy gadets could be used. New traffic lights going up all over Perth with these dimpled light swhich are the new LED traffic lights. Many new street lights have LED's. State governmnet going to save millions with these globes. What are the wattage on your LED globes ? You may want to check to see if they are certified as if they are to bright the cops may pull you over for lkighting up to much of the road. Are they CE certified or C-Ticked ? House ones that are not CE or C-Ticked may interfere with other electronics in the home. Some can even interfere with the TV reception when turned on. If they make LED bulbs for inside the car I would get some warm white ones like we have in the house.

  20. Satellite Navigation that connecst via car sig lighter. Saw one a while back at ***** Smiths Electroniocs for $65 which had one where it not only said which way to go but which lane to go in but can't seem to find that one anywhere. What's good for sat nav's. I'm in Perth WA. Would prefer to buy locally. My car is teh Toyota Corolla Ascent Hatch Auto. Plenty of room to put it on the dash board. Would prefer one that dsits on the dashboard over one that grips to the window via a suction cap. Already have a carcam which takes up a bit of room. Don't want tyo over crowd the windscreen. Toyota Sat Nav quote is $2000 which seems very very in price.
  21. The new automatics look more like a manual stick where they go off to the side and then down wher the older sticked were: Park/Reverse/Nuetral/Drive//2/1 in a staright vertical line for the gears which was dead easy to use at night. A button could be pressed to lock it oin that gear but not on the new car. Lean over to get soemthing out of the glove box and hit the gear stick and it will move into another gear position. Some of my friends have new Toyots and found the same thing. They've made it look like a manual stick which seems very odd. I love the smooth ride when driving. I get 464km to the tank. Its a 55 litre tank which is plenty for me. Some other brands may have a bigger tank but 464km will do me nicely. The car does get quite hot with all the glass at the front. Still beggers can't be choosers. Overall I like my car. I prefer the front of my new car to the back of the new model.
  22. My 2011 new Corolla Ascent Hatch Auto was $27,000 minus $3000 for a trade in on my old Corolla Hatch so a total of $24,000. Bought in December of 2011. Out of 5 stars the place that I bought it from in the West I would give 0/5. If I was buying new again I would get it from Nedlands Toyota who seem very good. Colour of car - Tungston which I think looks really nice. I notice the latest model ones don't have this nice colour. These cars like the modern cars one can not see the front of the car making parking a living hell. The good thing is the outside window mirrors fold in with a button in the car. Wish though that it had a light on this button as at night its to hard to find. Car performance 5/5 for a smooth ride. Even on a bumpy road it appears to be very smooth. The automatic gear stick is just weird. Would prefer the up and down like my older Corolla and at night I need the car cabin light on to see which gear to move it into before I can take off. If I accelerate to quickly the whole car revs up and goes nowhere so it must be a slightly increase of pressure on the pedal. My model had no GPS Nav in it. A CD deck which is a bit dated these days. Why they don't have a usb stick over a cd deck to save panel room. Then a gps nav could go in its place. It has bluetooth though. The car is quite high off the ground which is great. That way if I am turning left and a 4wd is turning right I can at least see through the 4wd windows to see if the road is clear. My older Corolla would only see a 4wd door making life hard when turning if a 4wd was turning the other way.
  23. You don't work for the car yard I bought my new Corolla from last year by any chance as they have the same attitude. LOL:)
  24. Also depends on quality control. Electronics sold to Australia need to be C Ticked certified and companies that have the correct certification cost more than the cheaper non C Ticked gear. Take some LED lights, some that do not have C Ticked interfere with the TV reception wjere ones that are C Ticked don't. This is quite important if you plan to watch free to air tv. Like I said not everything made in China is bad. I can point out 10 things that are good and 10 that are bad. Not hard to do, If you google cars with chinese parts you will find many forums discussing this is more detail about problems. Perhaps its the reason why there are so many general recalls on in recent years.
