  1. Import from overseas?

Actually no - the Proxes are from Tyrepower and the Re001 from Bob Jane

I get the feel that the Re001 is a better tyre - nice and sticky, but dont necessarilylast as long as a result. Meanwhile, the Proxes 4 is a good compromise for grip and longevity... The guy at TP said, however, that the Kumho KH15 is not only cheaper ($175), but is comparable to the Proxes. He did go on to say that he did not have anyProxes in, but did have the KH15.

I did not expect the Re001 to come in at this price, so I have not really looked at it. Is this just a case of personal taste?

That's a really good price on the RE001. I got the same quote over a year ago so that's real good. But as you said Elan they won't last as long as the Proxes 4. They are even softer than the T1Rs I believe.

In regards to the Kumhos; I think he is trying to offload them. They might have been sitting there for a while as well so that's something to think about as well.

Which Tyrepower did you get the quote from?

Given that I work about 5km from home, I think the re001 will last me plenty of time, so I think I will treat myself. More opinions would be appreciated though.

The Proxes quote came from Norm at Tyrepower Inglewood. If anyone else is in the market for Toyo's in the next few days/weeks, we might be able to negotiate a better price. My Echo is in need of new tyres as well, so +1 that.

    Thanks mate

  3. When I was ringing around for tires earlier, I got quoted for $195 for the Proxes 4 in 195/50R16. This is for a rather unsual tire size, so you should be able to find it a bit cheaper for the more common 205/50R16. Mind you I'm over in the east.. :P

Thanks for the price reference. Pity is that tyres are more expensive here, but haggling is an art :)

  4. I think the Proxes 4 are a go. Too many say they're a good tyre, so I shall do a call around tomorrow for a good price.

    Anyone else in Perth interested?

    Thanks for the reviews, guys!

Elan are you in perth atm? Paul at Tyrepower Canning Vale does a pretty good deal for the TOCA boys, and his service is top notch too. Thou I suspect you might be able to find somewhere else with better price.

Yup back in Perth. Going to Kal every 2-3 months now (fly in fly out service).

Canning Vale is a tad far for tyres, so I will try locally first.

  5. Hi,

I just installed a double din alpine unit in mine and all works fine, I had the same initial problem but I put the aircon shroud in and made shore the four clips all ligned up and then tightened the bolts up on the head unit, no problems yet. Hopefully it is the brackets. Let us know how you went with the old unit.

    Flugel.

X2. I had to rebend some of the metal clips - took some trial and error (and shoving)

  6. I've been looking at the Toyo tyres:

    Teo Plus

    Proxes 4

    Proxes T1R

I think the T1R might not give me the longevity I would like, but am not sure. What's the noise like compared to the original Turanzas?

I know that many on the forum use the Proxes 4 - to those, what is it like?

    What about the Teo?

    Argh!!!!

  7. Elan haven't seen you for a while. How you been?

Have you tried getting a quote on some Toyos?

Jayme has a set of Toyo Proxes 4 and he loves them. Not too expensive either.

Hiya - I've been quite busy running the business, recently been back to Kalgoorlie, had the flu for almost 2 weeks - yeah its been a busy time!

Re the tyres - still getting quotes when I can. Only looking in the local area as it will be a case of dropping the car off and then to work. The prices so far are pretty dismal...

  8. Thanks for the replies.

I contacted Bridgestone (reluctantly) to find out what price the original Turanza's were going for - they weren't going anywhere.

What was recommended were the BS Supercat tyres. I haven't heard anything about these - any opinions? They are considerably cheaper than Yoko A or C drives, but I dont need a super performance tyre.

    Other quotes:

    Kumho KH15 195/55/16 $187

    Kumho KH23 205/50/16 $145

    Whaddaya thunk?

  9. Hi guys - new tyres needed as mine are now... quesitonable in tread depth.

    I believe I have 4 options:

    1) Replace the car. Hmmm...

    2) Purchase new 195/55/16s. At somewhere between $187 for Maxxis and $240 for Yoko's, I might be better off with something else.

    3) Purchase 205/50/16 or 205/55/16 tyres. I have read the debates over this choice, and am undecided. The 50's are good with a lower wall hence less cornering deformity but the trade off is slightly less fuel economy. The 55's are okay for fuel economy etc. However with both the speedo will be out. This choice also brings the price down to the sub-$200, with plenty of tyres in the $150 range.

    4) Get a mag and tyre package. I like the Krayzee rims. I can get a package with 17 inch mags plus reasonable rubber for $1000-$1400. Hmmm again...

Yes, I have read previous topics, but most of them date back 3 years. I hope that tyre tech has progressed somewhat in that time period.

Unfortunately I'm very busy for the foreseeable future, and would love someone to hold my hand with this.

    Thanks.

  10. I have not read the other comments.

I once displayed personalised plates with my namesake on them - caused tonnes of problems, so when they occured, I drove straight to the nearest police station. Funny how no one followed me in. Waste of time though. I still have the plates - I just dont display them.
