  1. Hiya grey-rolla,

onya for giving it a go! Please tell me if you notice any changes. I know with my stivo that putting a hand on the bonnet after ~30 mins diring is enough to cleave skin; see what the temp is like on the bonnet, along with gains in the engine department.

How much taping did you use, and how much of the header did you tape? Any chance for a happy-snap?

    Cheers,TD1

  2. Hi guys and gals,

Autofest is coming to Albury for the first time, and it makes for a great excuse for a group meet.

There are a couple of people who have already shown some interest in getting together on the last day (sunday).

If there are any other takers, please raise your hand so we can work out an appropriate place and time to meet. I will update this message as interest comes in.

    Friday --> Sunday, 23rd-25th Feb

    Cheers!

"One cheap way to get extra power and fuel economy is to wrap your exhaust manifold/header with heat resistant exhaust wrap/tape.

"When exhaust gases are pushed out of your cylinders to your exhaust manifold, the air surrounding the manifold begin to cool the gases. This cooling process reduces the velocity of the escaping gases and the engine must 'work' to push the gases through your exhaust system.

"Wrapping the exhaust headers with exhaust wrap maintains hotter exhaust gases that exit the system faster through decreased density. Increased exhaust scavenging is produced, along with lower underhood and intake temperatures. I would also venture to guess that my catalytic converter operates more efficiently since hotter gases would elevate burning of pollutants.

"I purchased the exhaust wrap by a company called Thermo Tec from a JC Whitney catalog for around $30. I installed the wrap on the header and a portion of the exhaust pipe leading from the catalytic converter to the muffler.

"This mild enhancement resulted in a 5 - 7 HP gain ... the power surge starts at around 3,000 rpm. I haven't had the chance to monitor the fuel economy gains."

What do you think? Science is sound, but worth the effort? Anyway the 2ZZs get hot and stay hot.

  4. The airbox? No you can't just put a pod filter in the airbox. We're talking about pod filters being used on long cold air intake systems or short ram air intake systems, pretty much a piece of pipe that has an adaptor for the Mass Air Flow sensor that draws air through a pod filter into the engine.

If you want a straight upgrade for your standard airbox search the forum for "Panel Filter". Manufacturers make high-flow panel filters to suit our cars, including K&N, ITG, BMC, A'pexi, Tom's etc...

:whistling: Right-o, gotcha. I wasn't paying enough attention.

    thanks!

  5. Long story short (and please excuse me if i've missed this somewhere earlier)...

It i recommended (if not explicitly demanded), that Stivos run on premium (assuming RON98 and upwards), but i read that some are using as low as 91 octane.

    What's the story then?

Can Stivos run on 91 and/or 95 octane, or should they be left on 98 and upwards?

  6. Yes I think there should be a meet up of sorts for the Canberra and Melbourne guys.

If either party didnt want to travel the whole way, we could meet up in Albury or Wagga or something.

We could also have the meet in Canberra and get the Sydney guys to come here as well. Thats a 3 state meet. Good luck getting everyones schedules to match up though!

Anyways, I think there should be a Bangn v Northy showdown if they're so keen. I know Bangn will bring it!

Sydney would be the go as its kinda most central to everyone. Although it does still leave a fair hike for the QLD crew.

I'm in Albury - more than welcome to meet up at my dismal place, or nearby. BYO BBQ - i dont have one!

  7. Without trying to sound like too much of a schmuck, it seems we'll have to agree to disagree on which car is deemed better. In the end, i guess we choose cars that suit our purposes at the time.

If you want a reliable, reasonably priced, economical car, you would probably tend towards something like a toyota.

If you want an iconic aussie version of a muscle car, don't mind paying slightly more for fuel and insurance, then holden is a viable option.

You can go for the shampoo - it cleans the hair

    or

you can go for the conditioner - silky and smooth.

  8. I was watching a docco on a rundown of the cars put forward for assessment by Motor Mag, and the tester doody was saying how impressive the Aurion was compared to others in it's class, going so far as to say that there wasn't much to talk about - if you have the money and want that class of car, the Aurion can't be matched. I can't remember where and when I saw it - anyone else find this familiar?

Or did I simply dream it... (they unstrap me to watch tv...)

  9. Pretty car, but IMHO the sportivo/TRD name should be synonymous with the tech specs that are well above a standard model, like shoving a celica engine into a corollas body -subtle, but powerful, and not to be under-estimated. After all, the R in TRD stands for racing, but I don't think good looks (for the most part) makes a car faster...

IN the end, at least Toyota is making an effort to appeal to a wider market, and competing with other pocket rockets.

Pretty car, and yeah, it does look like a big 'hamster-ish' yaris to me!
