  1. Thanks for the info.

My insurance is bundled at the moment, but when the time comes for renewal, I will look around - probably come back to the forum and ask who the best insurer is.

WQBE hasn't given me any troubles, but they are a bit anal retentive. I wonder if I tell them AAMIs quote they will try match it to keep competitive...

    Time to have fun!

  2. Hi guys and gals,

Just a quickie regarding regarding installation of a CAI and insurance companies and claims. While there is a constant debate about whether they are legal or void warrantees, it is also prudent to inquire with your insurance company if it will void your cover.

I was on the verge of buying a CAI, and asked my insurer (WQBE) as to whether it would be a problem. Long story short: yes. Despite the fact I don't think with their collective knowledge know what a CAI is or does, the fact is it attracted an increase of $1000 towards my excess. Note not the annual cover fee, but only if a claim is made.

If you attach a CAI without their knowledge, and have an accident or have your car stolen, WQBE WILL NOT cover you. You lose a ~$25000-$30000 car all for a ~$300-500 CAI. Not worth it in my opinion.

Naturally, you can shop around and state said modifications, but always remember to check with insurers before you mod to see if you are 1) still covered and 2) if your excess will increase.

Damn bloodsuckers. Over a decade I have never claimed.

Those with CAIs, you are officially envied.

  3. Ultimate hack:

I hate people driving in front of me. Can't stand 'em. Need to get them behind me.

An open road in front of me is a good road.

Anyone want to cruise with me from Albury to Perth (or at any points in between)? Nice open road - as long as you're behind me!

  4. Airport Security Staff !!!!!

From time to time I have to fly Melb - Syd and back for work, recently I flown 3 times in the last 3 months. On every occassion Both at the Melbourne side and Sydney side (So that's six times in total), I've been stopped and checked for a 'Random' Explosive substance check!!!!!!

Now once is ok but every freakin time!

Now I am of Italian background. Yes, I do have an olive/tanned complexion and dark hair. My work attire is a nicely pressed Suit and Tie. Do I really look like I want to bring a freakin plane down with a Guess Brief Case!!!!!

I'm seriously just being targeted because I look like I may be of Middle Eastern Background. So wrong!

    heh

    Scene: Melbourne airport

Star: Me, sporting a beard with pasty skin adjacently because i had the flu

Reason: Wishing my best a safe trip

    Offending object: My friggin keys!!!!

So it's a big, nasty looking key! My pen is more dangerous.

So, a premature goodbye hug and kiss in front of the security staff, and then i was escorted out of the airport.

  5. thanks for the encouragement rob. but i need at least 25 cars for the dyno day...........come on ppl show ur love!!! :toast:

there has to be more ppl that live in sydney that are coming. :D

I'm not interested in standing around for a dyno on every car.

    I am! I wanna see if my d!ck is bigger than Corey's, Bren's, Mark's, Micky's, Jimmy's etc.

I already know that I'll lose to Azza though. He has to tape it.

Damn. There I was thinking we were going to p1ss up walls. :whistling:

  6. Oh yeah... umm... i'm - new - here.

I drive a red Echo Sportivo (the SpEcho), my run-about car, and a blue facelift rolla stivo, my speed-about car.

I will do a photo shoot with both together as soon as i get time.

I currently live in Albury, but will be moving back to Perth soon.

    Ambiguous enough?

  7. Hi all,

After searching the forum fairly extensively, I've noticed:

    1) Most airflow topics are on CAIs

    2) There is some confused debate about panel filters

I appreciate that if one is going to spend over $150-odd on a panel filter that they are better off getting a CAI, BUT what if one does not want to?

So, I open this thread to the panel filter debate.

First off we have our stock-standard Toyota paper filter. Does the job, over $100 to replace.

Secondly we have the TRD filter. Difficult to see when it is dirty, and still appears to be a red-coloured paper filter.

Third welcomes the 2252 K+N oil panel filter. According to a doody-jim mechanic at toyota, oil filters are not the greatest as the suction from the engine is capable of sucking some of the oil into the engine. He highly recommended a dry filter.

Fourth, which I found on eBay, is the Trust Airinx II filter. Very cheap, but does anyone know what its filtration is like?

Fifth... well, you'll have to tell me. I only know about the first four!

Six: As some would say - Panel filters are a waster of time. Do everything else, from CAI to porting headers, and talking to mazda boys about dump pipes... :P

    I await your expertise!

  8. BAHAHAHAHA......

Yeh all my mateys thought i was a ******* for buying a stivo untill i beat my mates XR falcon on the same road on saturday morning

    Woohoo! Now we're talking!

Mind you, I have chewed SS Commies in my SpEcho just by driving better! (okay, maybe they weren't trying, but i still beat them, and that's all that matters. Humph. :whistling: )

Correct me if i'm wrong, but just remember to get the water temp up to lift specs before thrashing the engine. I remember overtaking a truck after a short stop (where the engine cooled) and was surprised that the lift didna kick in, making the overtaking time longer...

    2 cents worth.

Being serious though I'll try and come up with some just for funs sake tonight lol. Been busy sending this website live :S

    *shakes head woefully*

... and the someone just had to go and do it! :help:

That's one ugly toe (and I'm a podiatrist!). Nice cow though. Are they yours? :D

  10. isn't someone try to sell a 2zze at the moment?

It might be worth your while to investigate wreckers etc...

heh- try find one of those stolen rollas and use 'em for parts! :spiteful:

(yes, i am quite evil, but do send my condolences to those who are rolla-less)

  11. Hiya guys,

I was thinking of doing something similar (to begin with) to bassposse. What I had in mind was one of 2 possibilities:

    1) Running flexipipe from lower down (lower grille) and directing it upwards towards the snorkel (which to me is in a retarded position behind the headlight - a 2zz FYI). Hopefully this would redirect cooler air towards it. It is not my intention to connect the two with tape to negate water worries.

    2) As above, but disconnecting the snorkel and just running the flexipipe towards the side of the air box, again without actually connecting the pipe to the box.

As an aside, i'm thinking of wrapping the headers in fibreglass heat tape. I have noticed that the enginebay/bonet gets extremely hot after driving around for a short while.

The rationale behind using the flexipipe is because

    1) It flexes, so is easy to move around (shya!)

    2) Given its larger diameter and the fact that it's not connected, the internal ridges shouldn't be a problem

    3) Cheap cheap!

At this time it is merely a thought - what are yours? I'm not particularly interested in a CAI at this point in time (expense and insurance reasons amongst others).

I look forward to your ideas!

  12. Probably the first and easiest thing to do is to reset the ECU and make it 'forget' about the slow throttle response. Once reset, drive / rev the car hard to make the ECU learn that behaviour.

Search for threads on resetting the ECU if you're wondering how (it's a case of uncoupling the battery and letting the car loose any excess charge).

While that's being done, why dont you give your air filter a clean?

    Cheers
