Mate throw the kn filter in, ur aurion will be fine as long as u don't go crazy with over oiling it. 

I've personally never had any issues with them, but have found the pod filters work a lot better but only when used in conjuction with a custom intake & colder air placement

Seen dozens of road tests, & most of them the Michelin pilot 4's perform beautifully. I just don't have the budget for them. 

Recently fitted a pair of kuhmo ecsta ps71 on the front, & there's a noticeable increase in traction over my previous Hankook & the Bridgestones before that. It does come at the price of increased Tyre noise, but nothing too bad

That's a good price. 

I buy aftermarket. First lot of filters I bought for the aurion from ebay "wesfil" brand I think, came with cabin, oil, air filters for 50 bucks total. Car drives fine. 

I stopped being pedantic years ago about things like this. However, I always use full synthetic, which us usually on special every 2/3months nulon or Castrol... Same same

Want better km's per dollar? 

Put 91 in, and use the savings per tank (compared to using 95) to put more 91 in and you'll see more km's.

Using expensive fuel to save money, is roughly the same logic my dad used when he paid a 20k premium on his diesel Mercedes over the petrol versions to "save money on fuel" 

Newer switches are an enclosed type that protect against debri, was a bit daunting at first but easy done. My old au falcon was an open type switch that had a ridiculous amount of crap in there. Every few months I had a new switch to clean. Off topic, hyundai stepped up their game over the years Tony.... This I30 looks small on the outside, feels like a large sedan in the front seats, 6spd auto feels more intelligent than in my aurion & handles better to be honest, superb on fuel, zippy around town. I would absolutely consider the turbo model if I had the cash

 I'd pull the switch apart and suss it out. Switches are fiddly but pretty simple. The main problem I've found is contacts arcing out which is fixed by scraping the black soot off them. Another is debri jamming them up. Also bent contacts which can be unbent. 

If u were to pull it apart, just make sure u ring local wreckers first & have a plan b replacement if it goes pear shaped

I didn't notice that. Considering 3" is ideal for this engine, the 2.5" cat will be a bottleneck for any future exhaust mods. I'd say exhaust bloke didn't want the awkward job of merging 3" with the factory pipe

Yeah when I dropped the rears, I drove like an idiot, purely the sound encouraged me to do it. 

When resonators went on it, I calmed down alot. Strange phenomenon haha

If u go 200cpsi, then get one with a larger body, that way u get the filtration along with larger area for flow. 100cpsi are good for tight spaces whilst still allowing flow

And replacing the factory cat with a lower cpsi version is illegal too. I guess at least it "looks" like something is there so that option is preferable. 

Exhaust place will fit or mod anything for you, but just a friendly tip.... If u walk in their all holy & start going on about legalities, the bloke will be hesitant to do anything. 

Keen to see how u go with it, and crossing my fingers you end up doing the whole exhaust like I want to do, but the coin will never allow me to 😞

Nice to see u invest in the exhaust. Just remember it will only flow as good as the bottleneck in it. You may have to follow through and do the whole lot to see gains.... Which wouldn't be a bad thing 🙂

Hard to tell if it's dual all the way or what exactly has been done. But it just sounds like the rear mufflers have been dropped & replaced with hotdogs that have large tips welded straight onto them. Loud pop & burble sounds great outside, but that car would drone bad inside

It was a lucky result as I didn't recall seeing any definitive recommendations for modding the exhaust whilst avoiding drone. It was either too quiet or too loud, or no specifics given regarding size of mufflers. Can honestly say if I tried to make it any louder outside, then would start droning again in the cabin.... This combo is just right. I'm sure there's a way to get some burble back with smaller resonators & avoid drone by using j-pipes, but it's all theory until it's tried & tested.

It had an audible burble inside the cabin when I dropped the mufflers, not anymore at least from inside the car. I might make another video another day as my video was ****. A tamer note is what I was looking for. Picture the "stage 1" exhaust upgrades in a grand turismo game, similar sound haha

Not a great video as I didn't want to drive like an idiot past my neighbour's, but u get the idea. Will need to hear it thru something better than phone speakers to pick up the sound

Since there's already a single running down the middle, seems more practical & alot more cost effective to use a single 3" pipe until it splits into 2.

Looked into it, and it seems that an ideal exhaust for a 3.5l with 270hp would be a single 3" or 2.5" duals. 

So to keep things simple, an ideal aurion exhaust would require the last cat be replaced with a 3" version and run that size tube all the way to the rear, and split into dual 2.5" tubing

Well I read in another thread "exhaust ripped off" here someone replaced the rears with straight through supercat mufflers and it basically sounded stock & they were very unhappy. So I had to assume those mufflers were the typical wide body versions which even though straight thru, do a very good job of cancelling sound..... The bigger the better as the old saying goes..... But as these aurions already have 3 cats & a middle resonator, there's alot of noise cancelation done before the rears. 

Another thread mentioned the use of hotdogs, and complained that it was still very loud. No good

So I figured fitting a small long resonator (but not toooo long) would do the job. I am supremely happy with the sound. I admit I would like to hear more in the cabin, but that would come at the expense of drone, so I'm happy with the trade off. It has a deep muted tone outside, and even my 70yo dad gave it a nod & said it wasn't too loud. I only had 2" pipe fitted as they're twins & more than enough for flow. I can't comment if larger pipe will change the sound for the better.... Or worse

I think it's the way the tc kicks on full throttle and the tyres skid jump spin stop start violently. 

Do enough of them & u have funny treadwear. Learnt from the last set. I'm a good boy now.
