  1. Yes, interesting that KIA has a 7 year warranty but I don’t think I’d feel comfortable buying a KIA. I’m sure there are plenty of happy KIA drivers but it’s just not for me. I used to like the look of the Volkswagen Jetta. But that was before I read the bad news stories about Volkswagen. I think I made a safe bet by returning to Toyota.
  2. To be fair, the Hyundai dealer did fix the problems I had under warranty. Some people even said that was a sign I should’ve stuck with Hyundai. If we accept the universe is infinite in size then I’m sure out there, on another Earth, there is another version of me driving his new Hyundai Sonata. One problem, which did get fixed under warranty, was my problem with the steering wheel. The rubber, or whatever it was, slowly started to come apart in the grip of my right hand. Hyundai replaced the the steering wheel under warranty. But even the new steering wheel started to “dissolve”. I stopped the problem by putting a steering wheel cover on it, only a very small amount disappeared this time. This was a problem I’ve had in no other car I’ve owned. It sticks in my memory as the oddest car problem I’ve ever had. The manual gearbox also had problems. Again, that was fixed under warranty. Just meant I was off the road for weeks, from memory. I guess that other version of me, on the other Earth, owned a Hyundai Accent that gave him no problems.
  3. This is actually my third Toyota. Before I bought a Hyundai I owned 2 Corollas in a row, the first a 1987 hatch back manual and the second a 1998 Corolla Seca csi manual. The Hyundai I bought was a mistake. As I've said elsewhere, I've heard Hyundai cars have improved a great deal in quality but I decided not to buy another one. I'm sure a brand new Hyundai, maybe an Elantra or a Sonata, would've been a big improvement over my old car but I just felt I wanted a Toyota again. I was going to test drive a new Corolla, with CVT, as well but I test drove a Camry first and it just felt right for me. I'm a tall guy and after being stuck with a Hyundai Accent for so long the Camry just felt so comfortable. This Camry is also the first automatic car I've ever owned. Being larger than my previous car, driving the Camry after I bought it at first almost felt like I was "driving a boat". I honestly don't know how I would've coped without the proximity sensors, especially the cross traffic alert as I reverse out of my garage. Also, the inside of the Camry seemed like a spaceship compared to my previous car. But I'm used to it now. I'm 55 and I'm currently working casually, after getting my degree at the age of 50. I needed a car that was much more reliable than my old car as well as being more comfortable to drive and not too expensive to own over the long run. I'm very happy to be the owner of a Toyota again.
  4. Before I bought my Camry I'd use Google Maps on my iPhone. But now I find just using Toyota Maps is just so convenient, with the screen and not having to look down at my iPhone every so often. Although I have found the Toyota Map to make the odd mistake and I was told it will be updated next year, with some usb stick at the dealer. What do other people think of Toyota Maps compared to the other apps like Google Maps and Apple Maps?
  5. I've got the 2018 4 cylinder Camry and as this is my first Camry I don't know what the previous versions of the Camry are like to drive. I do know I've admired the looks of Camrys over the years. I just know I've seen video reviews that say the current Camry is based on a new architecture and that there are some improvements in driving it, including the way it handles corners. Is there really a noticeable difference compared to the previous version?
  6. I must admit I put mine into normal mode on the highway because I don’t want some idiot tailgating me.
  7. I’ve mainly stuck to economy mode, in my 4 cylinder Camry. Lately I’ve used normal mode for a couple of return trips down a few kilometers of highway, doing 80 to 100. This past week I’ve spent twice as much money on petrol as I’ve done in past weeks. I’ve been using 95 RON. Could using normal mode make that much of a difference? Or maybe I’m just accelerating too quickly.
  8. I have the regular SL with 4 cylinders. At one stage I was considering a hybrid but I only average 16,000 kilometers per year. Admittedly that will likely go up slightly, now that I have a much nicer car, but I still couldn’t justify buying a hybrid with the low kilometers I do per year.
  9. The first time I used the Toyota Maps to find a petrol station it took me to an empty paddock. I tested the maps the next time I went to the same petrol station, maybe 2 or 3 weeks later, and it took me to the petrol station itself. I was told the Maps get some update via a usb stick next year. But is there some small updating going on in the meantime, maybe through Toyota Link on the smartphone?
  10. I have to admit I feel much better owning a Toyota again. I've asked my friend in the past if he'd consider a Toyota, maybe a Yaris as he likes having a small car, but he's keen to buy another Hyundai. I think he's had a good run with Hyundai, so I can't argue with him.
  11. Yes, I can afford it. I’m filling up less often than I did in my previous car.
  12. I've got the 4 cylinder Camry SL and the driver's manual said I can use 91 RON for my car. But I have been trying 95 RON. I'm finding 95 RON improves my fuel economy by 1 litre per 100 kilometres (according to the computer) compared to the time I used 91 RON. Am I wasting my money by using 95 RON? Although I have heard 91 RON petrol has more sulphur in it. Thanks.
  13. Thanks for quoting that, TIDYWAZZA..
  14. I tried clicking on that but I get a message saying my ip address has been banned. Probably because I'm haven't created an account for that forum. Can you quote part of the post? I don't think I want to join the KIA forums just to read that post.
  15. I have read and heard that Hyundai has made big progress in the area of reliability. A friend of mine owns a Hyundai Getz and he says he'd like to buy an i30. How would Hyundai compare to Toyota now, in the area of reliability?
  16. That's confusing to me. I downloaded the Toyota Link app onto my iPhone and I managed to get the apps working in my car. I did email Toyota to see how much the subscription is to Toyota Link after my warranty period expires, but I haven't had a reply yet.
  17. Basically, my previous car was old and unreliable. It was a Hyundai Accent and within the first few years, after buying it brand new, I had to take it back under warranty about 4 or 5 times. Although, to their credit, Hyundai did fix those problems under warranty. I have to admit that did give me a good impression of Hyundai as a company. I chose a Camry because I'm a tall guy and I found the Accent to be a bit on the small side for me. I was going to test drive a Corolla Sedan as well but I took a Camry for a test drive and I immediately decided that's what I wanted. My Camry is quite simply the best car I've ever had. Before I bought the Hyundai I had 2 Corollas in a row. The Hyundai I bought was a mistake. I have heard Hyundai cars have improved in leaps and bounds in the years since I bought the one I had. But after the trouble I had with my Hyundai I decided it would be too much of a leap of faith for me to buy another one. I guess it's possible I just got the one bad apple from a bunch full of good apples. I still see quite a few Hyundai Accents of around the same age as the one I had, so maybe they were normally a good buy, I guess that's possible. The Camry I now have, by comparison, feels so much more "sure of itself on the road". Plus I've got the 4 cylinder 2.5 litre engine (petrol only) and it drinks less petrol than my previous car, which had a 4 cylinder 1.5 litre engine.
  18. When I bought my car, my iPhone got the myToyota app. I'm very happy with the car I bought from Toyota, I'm just still learning everything about it and I just need help understanding Toyota Link and whether I need it or not. I found the apps on the screen in my car and the manual says I need to connect them to my iPhone using Toyota Link. Or at least that's how I read it. Do I need to download Toyota Link? Will the myToyota app be updated later, to take over from Toyota Link? I read that Toyota Link usage though my iPhone is free during the warranty period. How much is it to use after that? Thanks.
  19. I've figured out how to use it properly now, after reading the manual.
  20. I started reading the manual for the maps, but it would be so much easier if I could see a video (maybe on YouTube) that explains how to use it properly. Thanks
  21. I pretty much do all my driving around the suburbs and the city. I tend not to go down freeways, although that might change with a new car. As I live in an outer suburb of Melbourne, when I go to work in the city I normally park at a train station and catch the train into the city.
  22. I guess if I got a new job that figure of about !6,000 kms per year could change. I am interested in possibly buying a brand new Camry later this year. Is it worth my while to buy a hybrid version? Has the cost of replacing the hybrid battery come down and has the resale value improved? Would I save enough in fuel costs to justify buying a hybrid Camry? I guess I'd be look at buying at least the Ascent Sport Camry or higher. Thanks.
  23. Hi I'd just like to ask how the C-HR is for cost of ownership compared to other cars, like the Camry. If I did buy a C-HR I guess it would be the 2 wheel drive with CVT. Does it cost more for things like car servicing, insurance and tyres? Would it get noticeably different fuel economy to the Camry? Also, I've never owned a car with a turbo. Does having a turbo put a big strain on the 1.2 litre engine? Would the engine have a shorter life compared to non-turbo engines or would it have just as long a life as long as it was serviced properly? I've been mainly looking at the Camry but I'm open to looking at the C-HR. I'm currently looking at buying a new car in the second half of this year. Thanks.
