  1. The whole purpose for drifting was/is to retain speed through corners on tight downhill sections only. This was proven a fair few times by lets say, Keiichi. On the other hand, anyone thinking that they can get around a proper race track quicker by drifting (especially factoring steep hill sections and the width of the track), would be quickly ridiculed by the same man.

Drifting in Australia is vastly different to the way it was concieved in Japan. They do it to be faster, yet only when it enables them to actually 'be' faster. We seem to do it just to look...cool.

    BINGO!

    Now can someone close this?

  2. whitestivo: I'm run'in 1ZZ POWAHHHH :P

eSEXSIX: Mate, nothing wrong with an auto on track :P Mine is easily on par *if not faster* with a stock WRX (except on the straight) and have surprised a lot of people both on track and nebo :P

Just don't don't leave it in Drive. You can still down shift and control the gear your in. A lot more fun than ppl assume ;)

On the sprint track I only use 2nd and 3rd, only go into 4th down the main straight, so in a way its not too much of a disadvantage, less gear changes FTW :P

PS: Won't be out on the 31st, need to go to the airport.

  3. QR is a fun and exciting (if you push it) track.

Its also wide & safe, there aren't any places that will catch you out and send you to the wall.

The only time i can see you getting in trouble is over confidence :P so if you haven't tracked much its the place to go.

My first track day was on a WET QR, was pouring down in the first 2 or 3 sessions, talk about a steep learning curve, but I managed okay :P

Remember track days are for a having fun. Learning the characteristics of your car and improving your driving skills comes naturally ;)

Hope this has convinced more ppl to head out :)

  4. For the people that missed it or couldn't get a connection.

Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load!

Considering the rule changes, I think its looks pretty good B)

Then again it will most likely look totally different once its on the grid at Melbourne.

More videos on the site too.

  5. Instead of inviting the team's sponsors and media Toyota Racing will present its 2009 contender, the TF109, with an exclusive world premiere on Thursday around noon. At 12.00 CET fans from all over the world will be the first to see the team's new car with an exclusive screening on www.tf109-premiere.com

In the past, pre-season events showcased a new car in front of the world's media but Panasonic Toyota Racing is moving with the times, embracing the need to be cost conscious while being increasingly open to Formula 1's millions of fans.

Panasonic Toyota Racing President John Howett commented on the team's special way of launching its new car: "The environment in Formula 1 has changed and continues to change. Panasonic Toyota Racing is committed to reducing the cost of Formula 1 while retaining its essential DNA but we are also constantly evolving in other ways, and one of our priorities is to share our passion for motorsport with the public.

"Formula 1 enjoys the loyal and enthusiastic support of millions of people throughout the world and we cannot forget that these fans are the lifeblood of our sport. This year we feel it is important to allow fans to share the excitement of a new car premiere, especially when the new rules for 2009 have created such a sense of anticipation.

"This is a significant time for our sport and I firmly believe they will see a strong and vibrant Formula 1 emerge this season, starting with the premiere of the TF109 on www.tf109-premiere.com."

I think its safe to say that none of us here will ever be invited to attend a F1 car premiere, so this is our best chance :P plus its Toyota so you just gotta :D

  6. I think we have enough skill and equipment here to do a decent job :)

I've only done a little bit of photography but bearing in mind he's willing to fly up (if there's enough of us) and then there's the editing (i imagine) involved in getting his shots to the standard they are... $50 is quite reasonable I think... I'd be happy to give anyone $50 for pics of my car (especially of that standard), as I know the cost, effort and time that goes into producing such a pic...

But each to their own :)

...your work is superb and will need to fly up here n maybe spend a few nights...

Oh I fully understand the amount that he is asking (see above), and I also think its fairly reasonable.

To clear things up, I wasn't implying the $50 for tangcla's work is a rip-off, not at all. Just that some of us can take decent shots for free ;) (obviously it won't quite be the same :P)

btw. he doesn't edit his photos

I'm happy to come along and see how he works, n perhaps learn a few things :)

  7. Don't know if you guys remember, but years back there was this reality show on 7 called "Australias worst driver", basically the show found a whole bunch of drivers with really doggy records where they have to complete various challenges and tasks. The winner (most improved) won an Alfa and the loser got his/her car crushed. Anyway the producers must have thought the idea of crushing cars would get peoples attention and entertainment value, well..... it totally back fired with a when the middle-aged mum who lost the show started crying on live TV while watching her car getting crushed, even the host felt it was a bit harsh and didn't know what to say lol. More importantly, this followed with a flood of bad reviews, ratings, and complaints. Needless to say the promised 2nd season never came.

So IMO... Australia says NO to car crushing :P
