  1. They do spin, but I am not sure if the shudder should be that bad. Like the whole car shakes.

Yep, that would be "wheel hop". It's pretty bad when it happens isn't it? I first experienced it when accelerating too hard in the wet, most noticeably on a hill. My Aurion was the first car that I ever experienced it in, so when it did happen, it scared the s*** out of me. I thought my dash was going to fall apart and my engine would rip out. It was only brief, but it was bad. Just need to avoid accelerating too hard that you may spin the wheels.

I never knew about the dynamics of wheel hop, I just always thought that the wheels would spin and that would be it. That's what happened in my old Camry.

  2. Okay. All good now. After some careful measurements, I managed to barely fit the camera in above the number plate. That way I have now used the camera that was provided as well as having night vision as well. Bit of a hassle to install, but I got there in the end.

  3. Yeah, I do realise that for this car (and probably every other car), the best fit would be above the number plate in the centre. .....

I've got my photo elsewhere in this forum, can not find it - You may want to look at this THREAD

Thanks for the nice highlighting. I have already seen that thread, and was well aware of Aurion ZR6's installation since he first posted it. I am also aware that he has done a HID installation writeup as well as a writeup on reversing the gear selector around. I have pretty much been through all posts on the Aurion forum. Anyways, I did say that: "I just want to get an overall idea of the possible mounting points before I was to drill any holes. I stated that I was trying to steer away from the centre of the number plate hence why I have asked: "to get some ideas as to what other people may have". This also left the topic open for any suggestions since I have mentioned my idea of mounting next to the number plate.

There may be someone that has experienced a different installation point. It was a simple question that's all.

  4. Yeah, I do realise that for this car (and probably every other car), the best fit would be above the number plate in the centre. The only reason why I am avoiding this is because of the design of my number plate and in my opinion, would not look so great. You can see in the attached photo just how close the plate is to the top, not to mention that the plate is about 1cm thick due to its frame. I was just wondering if anyone else has a camera mounted differently and if so, where it was mounted.

  5. Hi,

I've recently received a Nav unit that has the reverse camera functionality. I just need to mount the camera now but was wondering if any of you out there that have the reverse camera fitted (factory or aftermarket) could upload a picture of the mounting position for your camera.

I just want to get an overall idea of the possible mounting points before I go ahead and drill a hole in my boot. I was really wanting a symmetrical look by mounting above the number plate, but my personalised plate is in a rather bulky frame which prevents me from doing so. The area I'm thinking of now is to the right of the number plate. I've already got a camera as shown in the attached picture, but this would be best installed flush with the boot lid on the same pane as the number plate, hence being more visible. My other option is to get another camera from eBay and to mount it so that it 'sticks down' (on the same pane as the number plate lights) and is less visible.

I was just hoping to get some ideas as to what other people may have.

    Thanks.

  6. Thanks guys,

Lights swapped? I havent dont anything....yet.

Mine still had a hint of new car smell, but it was gone by the evening. I thought dealers had some sort fragrance to replicate that smell?

Must just be the white balance with the camera. Looks like you have HID's in there. Either way; looks nice.

Super cheap has the new car fragrance...

I think I'll check that out. I've tried others in the past and haven't been able to come close. Probably if you can find some quality dash/trim protectant and good carpet/upholstery cleaner you may be able to acheive the smell you are after. I guess it's just one of the perks of buying a new car I guess.

  8. Picked her up today.... veddy naice!

More than happy with my purchase, got lots of balls when needed but otherwise cruises so smoothly.

    Picture will be up soon...

Looks nice just from the avatar alone. Already got your lights swapped eh? As holmesie said, enjoy the first few weeks of ownership. Also, I'm not sure about you, but the new car smell is something to savour while it lasts.

  9. For those that have this unit, does yours remember the position in the track for music? I have tried both an MP3 CD and DVD and it seems to go to the beginning of the track every time I enter back into DVD mode either from power off or from the SOURCE screen.

    Hi DJKOR,

Mine does as long as you don't eject the CD or DVD.

Out of curiosity, do you have the unit with the updated firmware; the one that doesn't beep with the button presses? Mine has the firmware that DOESN'T beep with the buttons.

  10. Out of curiosity, if you were to gut the inside of the underbody cat in the Aurion, do you think you may still pass emission tests? Remember, the Aurion has 3 cats to meet the highest European standard which is higher than the Australian standard. So if you gutted the underbody one and left the other two on, there is that possibility that it may pass emision tests to Australian standard and with the appearance of a third one there, everything may be fine.

Just a quote from "FOUR STARS FOR THE NEW TOYOTA AURION"

"The Aurion easily meets what are called the Euro IV emission standards, which are more than twice as tough as the Euro III standards that are currently imposed in Australia."

    Just a thought.

  11. the remote can be programmed like the way a member told u in 'camry' section.

For the key, u can just 'program' it. There is a chip in the key, the black part where u hold.

This is discussed long ago, for the cheap way, cut open one of your key, take the chip out, put it close to your ignition(which u insert the key).. then u can use your 'cut key' and also the originals..

    Hope this help..

To buy the chip, not cheap lolz..

thanks mate,, ive just bought a new blank , so i have "the chip "already ,,,what im asking is how does oneprogram it,,, obviously the car must have to go into some program mode using the original.

    cheers

Yeah, you do need to put the car into programming mode. But as was already mentioned here, "Aurion sportivo paint, manual, mission oil and remote key", you will need to take it into Toyota because you need the Intelligent Tester to do so. You will be looking at about $35-$45 for them to do that.

  12. Well in regards to how the unit looks in terms of OEM fit, you have to see it installed for yourself before you can make any judgement. Long story short, all my closest friends grouped together and got me the Auspack unit for my 21st birthday. Severely hung over, I was still so excited that I just had to install it this morning before work. I managed to get the unit installed (minus the camera) and I must say, it looks so much better in person. It looks really clean and of OEM standard. I even managed to download IGO8 and the Australia maps with POI's. With that combination, this unit fricken awesome.

  13. Ah, great, thank you. I was just a little shocked to find it missing. Either somebody took it off to replace theirs, or it fell off! Would it be advisable to goto a Toyota Dealership for a replacement, or would I need to actually contact Toyota?

I would be leaning more towards the possibility that it was taken off. The cover has a little bit of plastic that should keep it attached to the bumper when you pop it off (kind of like a hanging tag). There is the possibility that wind resistance ripped it off when it was hanging there, but it should have held pretty good. I would just call Toyota spare parts. They might have the part, probably unpainted though.

  14. I never understood how those work. Last time I was at Willowbank for the 42nd Australian Nationals, they brought out a Solara that they just got from the USA. It was powered by a 2JZ with a Garrett GT60. That car was wicked quick. Basically though, it was just the shell that was the Solara. This basically looks like what is being show here.

So what exactly does the car need to have (such as in this case) to make them call it an Aurion? I'm just curious as to how this all works.

  15. I believe it's not a good idea to have HID kits on high beam and fog lights. ....

Sorry for jumping to this discussion but talking about fog lights - Just read few days ago: In Victoria, you can not turn the fog lights on if no fog - I rearely turn my fog lights on but that why I'm worying about because I may forget turn they off.

    BH

Here in Queensland they haven't quite updated the list to mention front fog lights.

    /QRR_part13_lights_and_warning_devices.pdf

The document only mentions "The driver of a vehicle fitted with a rear fog light must not operate the fog light unless the driver is driving in fog or

other hazardous weather conditions causing reduced visibility."

There are a lot of drivers around here that use their fog lights in combination with their headlights. Personally, I don't like the combination of using both. I only use my fog lights when it is approaching night and I think I can make it to where I need to get to without it getting dark enough that it justifies turning my headlights on. That way I reduce the usage of my HID's. Just on of those little things I'm picky with.

Apparently as well, I've heard that using your fog lights in combination with your headlights actually reduces your visibility at night. Don't quote me on it though. I think its something to do with the fact that things at a closer distance will be lighted up with more emphasis which makes things at a longer distance less noticeable.

  16. for someone who can even start selling foglights, i dont think he dont know about these hid stuff.. so dont bother replying this Q..

Meh, not my money being spent on a complete HID setup. Either way, I've seen the result of HID questions over at the Toyota Nation forums. They usually get at least one per week. This question is bound to get asked again in the future. The answer is there to hope some genius doesn't come along and post another thread about it.

  17. i need to know what kit to purchase for my aurion to convert my driving lights and high beam and fog lights to xenon on my aurion there are so many kits out there but i dont know which ones to purchase has any 1 done this conversion before

Most people don't bother changing their high beams and fog lights to HID. You will fin people out there that change their fog lights to HID, but you will find the high beams stay as halogen still. It isn't really economical to change your high beams to HID's because discharge style lamps have a longer life when they are operated continuously. Lot's of on/off cycles as well as brief usage times (such as when you flash your high beams) can wear the lamp out much faster. As for the fog lights, HID's will create a fair bit of glare for oncoming drivers, and probably isn't recommended. You can install some if you really want to however; it really is up to you. If you wanted the best performance, you should go for ones around the 3500K mark as they are a more yellow colour which is better in rain and fog.

Whichever way you choose to go, the low beams and fog lights are both H11 style, and the high beams are HB3. Kit and quality wise, most people say 'you get what you pay for'. I have found though that the cheap kits on eBay are pretty good for their price however. I picked mine up for around $80 including shipping and they work great. I had a cheap set in my old Camry as well and it never failed. I figured, I'll get a cheap set and if it lasts, that's great; and if it fails badly, I'll get a better kit next time. The key to prevent shortening the life of your lamp is in the way you use it. Try and keep them on for as long as you can per use. If you absolutely need to turn it off for a short period and need to restart them soon, try an wait a minute, and when you turn them on, try and do so once the engine has started and the car is not moving, an give it about 15-30 seconds for the 'high voltage' (200V is actually considered low voltage; but most people don't care) arc to stabilise.

Anyways, in respect to installing HID's in just the low beams, if you look around there has been some discussion:

Has anyone installed Bosch HID conversion kit?, globe size, power plug etc..

and some discussion on the colour temperatures and whatnot over at:

ZR6 Halogen Lights to HID 6000K

Also, Aurion ZR6 has done his own write-up at:

  18. "where does the bus stop (i mean whats at the other side of the bus)?"

    - Even more confusion. The wiring from the steering wheel connects to something along the way (I'm predicting the dash cluster because of the display button and the importance of the speed sensor to provide volume adjustment to the head unit), which I couldn't follow it to because I wasn't going to rip my dash apart again. I can tell you however that it ends up at the stereo as just 4 wires, shown in the photo below. If you were to swap any wires here, I am more than sure that either the buttons will not respond, or something is going to break. When you have so few wires, to so many buttons, it's not just a simple wire swap anymore. Welcome to the digital age.

That's why I only focussed my attention to the steering wheel side. For a situation like this, if you wanted to make any adjustments, this is where it's all going to happen.

  19. i think someone needs to find the wiring diagram...

then youse can switch the wires around.

Unfortunately it is not as easy as just swapping wires around. I had some spare time today so I pulled the controls out from my steering wheel, and just as I was expecting, it appears the buttons form part of a digital communication bus. It appears to work by modifying the dynamic resistance in a circuit formed over just two wires. The only way around it is to analyse the changes in the resistance and to swap some of those resistors around on the board to suit. It definitely is possible and I would most likely be able to do it myself if I had a need to, but for the everyday person, I wouldn't classify it as easy.

    Just click to enlarge:

    th.f7c62e6365.jpg

and while I was at it, I took a picture of the 'display' side as well (note that I don't have the other features shown on the board).

  20. Does it have information on setting the lock/unlock beeps?

Anyway the camrystuff.com site seems to be down.

You can enable/disable the lock/unlock beeps, as well as the indicator flashes. Unfortunately, you need to use the Intelligent Tester to do so which is a real nuisance as you have to go to the service department every time you want to make a change.

not sure about this, but on camry 05, u can do it yourself by using the car key and horn..

Have you got more information on this? If I get more info, I will try it out to see if it works. So long as it can be re-enabled because I quite like the beep. I reckon it sounds better than the chirp of standard alarm systems.

  21. Depending on how you look at it, i don't think the seek buttons on the wheel are wrong.

If you use an ipod, and you want to skip to the next song you click on down, so you do the same with the steering wheel buttons on the Auspack Unit.

Normally with music - cd or ipod, you read "down" the list. It seems logical that you would press down to go "down" the list of music.

    Up to go back.

Likewise with the radio - you start at the top of the screen with the presets, and then scroll down the list, using the down arrow.

    Seems logical to me.

Like you said it all comes down to the way you look at it. For the majority of people however, I reckon having it like that in relation to the positioning on the steering wheel can be a bit of a nuisance. The main convention of things is to go from left to right. That's why sentences run from left to right, and things such as fast forward point to the right. Just from feeling the two buttons on the steering wheel, you would expect the one on the right would be 'next', just like the volume up is on the right as well.

Each to their own though. In the meantime, if fixing this problem is not going to happen for a while, users will just need to get used to it for the time being, which may include using such logic as you have mentioned.
