MCV36R Camry Sportivo (v6) Or J31 Nissan Maxima Ti

Recommended Posts

Ok i am looking at upgrading from my corolla as its getting a little high in the K's and its getting to the age where things are more likely to start breaking. Its a 97 AE102 Corolla Seca, and i've done a touch under 270,000ks...

I am considering upgrading to a MCV36R Camry Sportivo, thats the last shape camry with the V6.. (previous to the current shape). I am looking at getting a manual one...

Now a couple of things about these:

- Does anyone know what the manual V6's do stock down the 400m?

- Any known issues or things about them?

Or the other car i am considering is a J31 Maxima Ti, thats the 3.5L Auto..

Now a couple of things about them:

- Does anyone know what these do stock down the 400m?

- Any known issues or things about them?

- How hard is it to put an aftermarket headunit in these?

Which would go better out of a 145kw Manual V6 3.0L Camry and an Automatic 170kw V6 3.5L Maxima?

I am tossing up between the two... argh... The camrys are cheaper, but the maxima's are more luxury...

Does anyone know which is better for a Sound Quality setup? The camry would be a lot easier to install an aftermarket headunit into it as far as i can tell (it actually has a double-din headunit whereas the maxima is intergrated... (but i have seen a couple of maxima's with aftermarket headunits, clarion maxima, and one by one of the audio installers)

yeah the maxima would be quicker in a straight line but its suspension is really ****. i'd go the maxima. it's got a be way better engine. i personally thin it looks better. I've driven both and the maxima is way more comfy. don't worry about it being auto. it's a cruiser anyway. a few mod's here and there and u'd be almost gwtting v8 performance

  • 1 year later...

the manual v6's can go if you push them, theyre more than happy to sing in the 4000rpm rev range all day.

having a sportivo myself i would recommend it, but it all boils down to personal preference.

also note that finding a manual v6 sportivo in good condition with modest kms on it is as rare at hens teeth. so good luck! (hence why im stuck with an auto, haha)
