Hey all, my AE82 4AGE corolla (liftback) is not starting, its turning over without any issue (yes ive searched the forums for this). Checked the coil/leads/plugs etc and nothing wrong there. So it should be the fuel pump/filter (most likely pump). i never been able to hear the pump when i started the car, i guess its well insulated or something. But where is the thing located? on the top of the tank? do i need to remove the rear seats to get to it? i hope i dont need to drop the tank. Any suggestions? thanks for your time :)

It's in the tank, you have to drop it to get to the pump.

More likely to be the circuit opening realy than the pump.

Remove the return line from the engine and run it to a bottle, then try to crank the motor. If the bottle fills with fuel during cranking, the problem is not with the fuel system.

ah ok thanks for that. So remove the rubber end after the filter, just run it to a bottle and see if it comes out. If its this relay, where is it and what should i do to replace it? Anything specific i need to know? (sorry not very familiar with this car)

not the line from the filter. That is bolted to the filter and the rail. There's another fuel line which comes from the fuel pressure regulator and to the return fuel line that feeds it back to the tank. That one has clamps holding the flexible fuel hose to the metal line.

On the opposite side of the rail to the one that comes from the filter right? I know it i believe. Ill check it out in the morning. What about the relay, what should i check to see if its a relay?

Forgive me for all of these questions mate, you're really being a great help. I just have no experience with these cars at all. I only have experience with carby cars to be honest (shame on me, im 20!), and just starting to get into the fuel injected ones now. I have an 85 RX7 also. The rolla is my casual car actually. But its great, little 4AGE is an awesome motor, and im thinking about getting this MR2 with a 20V in it too.

I dont know where the ECU is located either, do you know any thread i can look at that can give me alot of info on the car? Any main source. Might make me stop asking all these simple questions. Thanks mate

I had similar problem afew weeks ago with my old 85 Ford LTD.....been sitting for 3 years....need to start it to sell it....same prob, we pulled up boot lining, undid lid and unscrewed the pump out...manually moved it through a pump cycle....was really tight, then rigged straight up to battery 12v to test all and worke fine......chucked back in car started instantly........to test this prior to though we just poured some fuel straight into a hose which lead into the intake chamber or something...cant remeber exact name.... ne way it gave it enough fuel to start for 1-2 sec so we knew it was a fuel issue and not something else

good luck

Opps sorry, tested fuel, no problems at all, comes out after cranked without any issue. Tested spark, no spark, its the dizzy. I wacked it while cracking it and it started.........:/

Must be that magnet/coil thing that sends a signal to the coil to ground to coil and then the coil sends spark..Got one off another 4AGE that is in pieces (got the entire dizzy, and all i need is that piece on the inside...).
