Air coditioning

As we have recently bought a 1986 Celica I have been going over it cleaning and repairing. The air conditioning is set up for R12 gas which is no longer available. I am sure many other owners have been faced with the same problem, so how did you solve it? All threads of this problem gratefully accepted. Cheers
