ST162 1989 gearbox

Hi guys,

I'm planning to replace my gearbox as it's getting more and more often to hear noice when I shift the gear from 1->2.

I'm not very familiar with the part things. Normally it's my mechanical friend do everything (find parts and fix/replace it) for me, but this time he is too busy to get one for me, so I've to get one myself and give it to him.

My question is do I need a particular type of gearbox to fit my car or any kinds 5-speed manual gearbox will fit?

I live in Campise, NSW, if you knew anyone or anywhere has the gearbox i'm after please let me know, it'll be very helpful.

No, that gearbox will not work. All Supras are rear-wheel drive, and you need a FWD-style gearbox. For the ST162s, if memory serves it should be an S-series gearbox, also found in 4-cylinder Camrys and non-turbo MR2s (however the MR2 one will have the shift levers on the wrong side of the box, since it is mid-mounted). As for which number within the series, don't quote me on this but I think you need an S53 or S54, as the S51 has a taller 5th gear for highway cruising in Camrys etc.
