I have just bought my Grandad's '66 stout that he owned from new. It needs work but is a runner and is registered. It has a rust problem up behind the dash, anyone know how to stop this? I will fix it in the future but for now I plan to change to a smaller timber tray, whitewalls and maybe lower it.

Great to see another Stout owner on the forum. I don't have that same rust problem that you speak of. I certainly recommend whitewalls. Mine certainly looked a hell of a lot better once the walls went on.

If you plan to get rid of your hubcaps then let me know because I have been hunting for some for a while now. :D

I have decided to sell the ute as the rust is more then i wish to deal with,

It is in great mechanical condition and is great for parts, the seats are tops.

Is $400 a reasonable figure?

$400 is a reasonable figure and I think you would get that price without the hubcaps....... soooooo......... I would like to buy those hubcaps off you if it has all four of them......... would also like the seats, but that is too hard to organise and it will be much easier to sell with seats.

How much are you offering for the hub caps? My granddad almost flipped when i mentioned separating the ute and the caps:) But money can some times talk:)

I have bad news about the hub caps. My uncle has taken the ute up the coast (to rust out till it dies) for a surf board ute and the hub caps went with it. I did say that i knew someone who wanted them if he changes wheels, but i think the chances are slim. Sorry.

Is this story for real?

You got the ute off your grandad and your uncle has relieved you of it?

Fixing rust is hard try a Datsun for style.

You should have stuck with it as they are rare.

Takes a lot more effort to keep a car than dispose of it.

Many times I wanted to sell my GT glad I never did
