Automatic Transmission

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am a new member and new to automatic transmission. Can the experts please let me know, when should I use the other gear shifts (Except for P, N, R & D) for better engine health and fuel economy. I tend to use D always while I drive. Thank you.

I always have it in D for normal driving conditions.

The only time I ever change it to 2 or even L is in heavy traffic or when going down a steep hill for engine braking, apart from that you really dont need to change gears.

PS auto's rock! Just ask me.

Use both your foot. Release the break with your left foot as you accelerate with the right :) problem solved.

yeah but that makes the car jump forward lol

No, not hold down the brake and then let go. As you are releasing the brake pedal slowly accelerate (at the same time). Just like with a clutch & accelerator.
