I have a Toyota Hilux Surf diesel 1985. Has been parked up for a few months. The battery was abit sus so have replaced it with a new one. Have checked all fuses, cleaned up all the contacts but shes still dead. Get a loud audiable clicking sound for a few seconds and thats it when you put the neg connection on the battery [ even with the key off ! ] Have no lights, as if the battery is a dud although I know its fully charged.

Anyone got any ideas as to where to start ??

Try eliminate as much crap as possible and try to find the problem....

Start by testing if the battery is definately charges... A Volt Metre from ***** Smith should be able to help you there

It could well be the ignition switch is screwed... They arent easy to replace.. When i snapped my steering i had to replace the whole shaft... Ignitions are not fun to get off!!!

Check the actual wires running from the ignition to the battery... Simple and stupid but could be the answer.

Just think about it laterally... Im sure you'll work it out.

Solved !!

A wire from the + side of battery going to some switch [ dont have a clue what the switch did ] had a break inside. Multimeter picked it up when ignition switched on. With ignition off the multimeter read it as okay. Weird.

Anyway thanx all for your help .... Im darn near mobile again

Haha.. Nice one! Knew it'd just be something little!!!!

What else you gotta do to the beast to get it goin?

Another problem ... found that no fuel is getting through. Because she has been sitting so long fuel line has an air lock. Primed the filter but not pumping up. Will have to bleed the lines, if its not one thing it another huh !!!
