V8 Supercars- Toyota???

Recommended Posts

I went to a Indy breakfast this morning and was speaking with the legend himself ***** Johnson and he was telling me than Toyota was going to be in the V8's in the future! What engine would they use? and what body type?

Lexus? or a special TRD engine?

Given the restrictions on the current V8 Supertaxis, I would suggest that what we will see is something with an identical engine configuration/suspension setup/aero package as the current Ford and Holden cars. It will just look like a Toyota.

Still, its good news, I still remember the days when Group 3/Group A included cars from all over the world, was much more exciting than the current format. I'm probably showing my age here, but the days of V8 Commodores and Falcons rubbing doors with Ford Sierras, Jaguars, BMW's etc were awesome.

Unless they change the rules of V8 Supercars then Toyota is not eligible. The main issues are the car is not manufactured with a V8 and rear wheel drive in Australia. So unless the Aurion has a major change when it goes to second gen then it is unlikely that Toyota will appear any time soon. Rumours of Mitsubishi and Toyota joining have been floating around for ages. Obviously Mitsubishi can't afford it and with Toyota making huge profits without a major motor sport presence they don't see a need to join in the fun.

Also, should this be in the General section?

The IS-F is ineligible, unless they start making them here and fit the Toyota NASCAR engine.

C 1.1 Technical Definition and Class

1.1.1 The requirements of this Division C apply to V8 Supercars, which are defined as large-scale Production Touring Cars comprising a specialised class of 5 litre, Australian produced, right hand drive, four door Cars, fitted with pushrod two-valve normally-aspirated V8 engines.

1.1.2 There is only one class of Car the V8 Supercar with engines of up to 5000cc capacity fitted to Cars of which at least 25,000 examples, meeting the definition of Family of a Vehicle, must have been produced.

Production cars > Supercars

You won't see anything in the vein of a GTHO or XU1 now as a result. Not to mention something like Moffet's Series 1 Rx7 decimating at the time, and of course the Skyrine that everyone hated because it was an awesome car. I felt sorry for Nissan at the time. They came here to decimate in pure Japanese fashion, not just compete. Australian manufacturers get all /tear over it. Supercars are born. No Toyota as a result. Maybe the future though.

I heard from someone in Toyota that the new Supra when released will perposly have a V8 variant that should make them elligble

1. There is no way known that Toyota would build something into the Supra simply to make it eligible for one race category in one small part of their market.

2. Won't any supra be a 2 door? Thus making it ineligible?

Its a nice thought, but I think your mate at Toyota may have been misinformed.
