Howdy all, I was wondering if anyone knows details about OBD/OBDII in the AE112R Corolla. I wasn't able to get any useful information directly from Toyota, but the best information I could find online seemed to indicate that it uses ISO9141/14230. I bought a scantool (Elmscan ISO USB) but it doesn't want to talk to the ECU at all. Kind of frustrating given how much it cost with the shocking exchange rate at the moment. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has any helpful information about whether the AE112R uses OBDII (and which protocol it uses) and/or wants to buy an new Elmscan ISO USB (unused but with open packaging).

Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the quick reply! Which scan tools have you tried that haven't worked? I'm wanting to log information, and not just check error codes, so if I can find a scan tool that works (or at least get some info about which protocol it uses) then that would really help.

Haven't heard of those two scan tools before. Do you know what protocols they use? If I can rule out some of the protocols, maybe I can get some answers via elimination.

The pins that are present in my OBD connector (just to the right under the steering wheel) are 4,5,6,7,9,13,14 and 16. As far as I can tell, none of the OBDII protocols use pin 9, so it is either just an extra pin that Toyota put in just for fun, or it is not a standard OBDII protocol that Toyota uses in this model of Corolla. Not having pin 2 rules out either VPW or PWM, so it looks like ISO is the best option. Also, the pins look right for CAN, but the model is a couple of years too early to use CAN.

Hehe, well it looks more and more like it isn't actually OBDII unfortunately. The plug is the right shape, etc but from the scarce information that I can find, it sounds like it uses JOBD or some other variant of OBD. Sigh... thanks for your help anyway...

I think I'll send the scantool back and get a refund, since no-one seems particularly interested in buying it from me :)
