why is it that different countries drive on different sides of the road??

US, Philippines, and other places drive on the right side, while Japan, Aus, NZ, UK drive on the left?

whats the deal?

its like comparing different measurement units km vs miles, m vs yards, cm vs inches, L vs gallons etc etc etc ...... simply put the powers that be wanting to set "the standard" ..... im there is a far more scientific answer but i think its as simple as the yanks wanting 1 thing the brits wanting the other.

Yep, the second link is the better.

Pretty much most countries that revolted against their monarchy/aristocracy ended up switching sides of the road. Any colonisation after that point spread the new side of the road to the freshly invaded country.
