Service overdue

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

A question about service. If the corolla has done about 7000 KMs overdue for oil change, would that present much of a problem? Say the car was new and then did 17000 KMs without oil change.

I know it also depends if the car had fully synth oil or not, but obviously this car had Toyota's genuine oil for 17000 Kms withot an oil change.

Cheers!

Problem for the engine or for your warranty?

Engine: Depending on how hard you drive it then it might be a problem because you are close to the next service in terms of mileage. Engine oil could have been consumed entirely.

Warranty: Your warranty only applies, correct me if i'm wrong, if you continue to use toyota genuine service part and service your car according to your service manual/book. Should you not and some stuff f@rks up then ..... erm .... I bought my car not under warranty so can't help you there. Someone can better assist u with this ....

How many KMs do you travel in a day and whatever that is going on in your head till you can forget to service your car ??????

Not my car, I am fanatical about my oil changes and only use Mobil1 fully synth..

I think when the engine is being run in you need to service the car at around 5000 KMs with mineral oils... can someone confirm this for corollas? I know they ask for this in Commodores.

For warranty you must have your car serviced at the due date and kms...

We've had a fair few cars come in without service history, engines need to be rebuilt and warranty is denied...

I'd be booking it in for a service immediately...

Where do you work?

What types of cars needed to be rebuilt? Corollas? What year?

I work for Chatswood Toyota...

Had a few IMZ Camry's and a ZRE Corolla not too long ago...

What was the story with the ZRE Corolla mate?

From your understanding they dont need an oil change at the 5000 KM interval?

Noisy bottom end, no oil...

I always change my oil every 5,000kms...

So the car had no oil at all? Burned it all out?

Also what do you mean noisy bottom end? Sorry for the questions, just wanting to get a better perspective.

What oil do you use? I am using Mobil1 fully synth. Currently 0w-40 but switching to 5w-30 next change.

Noisy bottom end means bottom end bearings (connecting rods to pistons). If those bearings are farked, then you would need to change it and that would cost you an arm and a leg.

My advice to all my mates are change your oil every 5,000kms like Rolla Boy has mentioned. You dont change it to gain any power, but to prevent your engine from failing in the long run and also so your engine runs smooth and it wont make any noise.

Wouldnt 0W-40 be too thin for your motor? I would recommend 10W-40, although each to their own.

Thanks mate.

Noisy engine as in when you rev it up high or when you simply start it up?

Yeah the oil may be a tad thin, I simply had that oil when I ought my corolla... ill switch to 5w-30 at the next service. It says in the manual u can use 5w-30.

I recently read the 'something' and lemon guide, which seemed to indicate one of the bigger problems for the Corolla is that it ejoys burning oil. The suggestion was to have it changed religiously.

It's a good car/engine if that's the bigger of a few snags.

Noisy engine noise as in when its idling and sometimes when you rev it up.
