Need help was pulling out of car park after some rough 4x4 and steering wheel turns upside down and stays this way, car still drives straight as a die, and nothing appears loose, toyota has had a look but cant come up with anything concrete apart from maybe buy new rod ($390) or new steering box ($1800).

Anyone got any ideas cause im stumped not having much experiance with this sort of repairs to steering.

Thanks and regards

Hi John ,

If your L/cruiser is that with electronic variable ratio steering , and you have had a flat battery or had a wheel alignment done you must not shift steering wheel to correct it . The steering box has to be reset by special procedure

check with a dealer only which has someone there who has done the courses on this model .

Also there is a flexible little gear ring in the steering box which could have a problem . Your dealer should be contacting Melbourne on the matter . I do not recall on the serviceability of these s/boxes in particular .

I was in dealers for many years and have done this course 5 years ago , currently work in mining , sorry full information is getting sketchy now .

Nothing to do with steering is to be treated lightly , it has the potential to cost a life .

Regards

Hey Buddy

Thanks for the reply, i allready took the safe option as i totally agree with you on the safety aspect.

It was very weird but they ended up replacing the Pitman arm and then the whole steering box and 2 wheel alignments later my cruiser is all good again, they said they still dont know what the problem exactly was so they only charged me 1065.45 in total which was good as they quoted 1800 for box and 320 for arm.

The guys at Canon Toyota in Heidleberg were absolutely fantastic and recommend them to everyone.

Thanks again

Lerderberg / Wombat here i come ---------Freeeeeeedddddooooooooooom-------lol
