Hi all does anyone know what the blue wire is that comes out of the wireing harness control box for the original toyota tow bar. Could it be for a brake control for the trailer???

Rolla Boy thanks for the reply. What is the go with installing a brake control system? How is the blue wire utilised? Does a seperate wire have to be run from the front of the car to the back or can the brake control unit connect into the front somewhere that is the wireing harness installed as part of the genuine tow bar system? Hope this makes sence.

The blue wire from the tow bar harness is seperate from the rest so your brake control system would have to have it's own wiring running to the rear of the car...

I'm not sure of any other details as I've never done anything like that...

All I do with towbars is install the factory wiring looms and towbars... All plug and play these days...

The brake control unit mounts up front (you have to be able to get to it while driving), and patches into the power somewhere under the dash. The brake wire runs back to connect to the blue wire of the tow harness. Another wire connects into the brake light circuit, so that the controller activates when the car is braked.

I'm trying to figure out exactly how this works for a RAV at the moment, especially since the brake lights are LED. Also, where to put it? The dash is pretty cramped esp since my car has a knee airbag under there. I've put one into a Commodore before, but there's a lot more room there!
