Hayman Reese 1600kg towbar

Hi all, today i have spent fitting a tow pack to my atx.

the unit i used was a hayman reese 1600kg version. it was a a mission to fit as it requires removal of the rear bar and also a minor cut in the rear bar. it bolted in really well.

the electrical side was an issue due to having led tailights it was required to use some computer module so i didnt damage the vehicle.

i bought a kit for this and it plugged straight in although i had to remove the glovebox to fit the power feed to a plug and a fuse which goes into an alocated spot behind the glovebox.

all in all it was good and looks neat and tidy. i am very happy with the product.

if u want one fitted or need help doing it yourself give me a call 0418208816

sorry i cant post picks as i dont have my camera atm.

Hi,

Whats with the computer chip and the led lights, I have previous heard that when you have lead lights it's not a standard old method connection.

I take it that you didn't have a Toyota fitted towbar + connector ? Or did I miss the point.

Thanks

Are you on here just to sell Towbars?? Or is there some other point to this??

No not here to sell towbars, just thought i could save people a few dollars by having fit them themselves or get me to help out.

as for the point if you are going to fit a towbar yourself be aware thet it is not a case of simply splicing a few wires if you do that you would end up costing yourself a ******load of money.

I didnt have a genuine towbar on my car when i bought it second hand.

i would assume the reason behind this computer thing is to convert voltage back to normal for standard trailer lights.

other than that hopefully this thread is useful.

My guess is that this 'computer' thing would have been because the Aurion tail/brake lights would be wired and fused for low current. The LED tail light parkers are rated at 0.1W and the stop lights are rated at 3.2W. Compared to your normal bulb which would be 5W and 21W respectively, you wouldn't really want to tap into the original tail/brake light circuit.

just out of curiosity-how much did you get charged for the bar and loom etc matee.

cheers corey

well im not sure how much retail is but i can buy from a wholesale supplier so it was rather cheap, id prefer to keep the price to myself just so that i dont cause issues with my supplier or anybody else who does towbars.

i'll find out how much retail is and let u know.

I had the exact same Hayman Reese 1600kg towbar and complete wireup with a seperate computer (which is required), and all up it cost about $550, including tow bar and computer thing. I thought that wasn't too bad considering I was quoted almost double that from Toyota themselves. :P

I Had a geniune toyota towbar fitted to my ZR6. The guy came to my house to install it. He does all the installations for the local toyota dealership.

He connected the wiring for the connecter straight in to the wiring for the rear lights (no adaptor). All works fine without any problems. Has been fine for almost 2 years now.
