Hi Guys, got a cai for my car last week from USA cost me $140 Aussie delivered without the air pod filter, so i brought a cheap one from autobarn for $25, so is the air pod filter to low?

And do I leave the fog light cover off as well?

For $25.00 it doesn't sound like a quality filter mate. I have a CAI in my Nissan X-Trail and the difference between the generic pod filter that was supplied with the CAI kit compared to a K&N high flow opened ended filter is quite huge and noticeable. The K&N filter is smaller in size too, so I reckon it won't hang that low and you can also get a protective dry bag for it to cover the filter and protect it from sucking in dirt and dust. It comes at a cost though, the K&N pod filter is about $90 bucks or so (depending on the model).

The other good filter is Apexi but it's not re-usable like the K&N.

I have the same problem with my TRD CAI and TRD filter that came with it. You will need a shorter filter, as mentioned above K&N are good. Avoid big puddles as thats the last thing you want getting sucked into your air filter.

On the subject of big puddles and driving in the rain, I have solved this problem by fitting a bypass valve in the CAI which prevents it from sucking any water and stops it from going into the intake/engine. I have even done water crossing in my x-trail off-road with the CAI ;)

HERE are more details about it and it comes in different sizes to suit the size of the pipe of the CAI.
