interior trim colour change-unwanted

Hi all

I just returned from the toyota dealer as the interior plastic panels around the power window switches (all doors) and the top of the rear quarter panels in the hatch area have started to change colour, from black to purple. They said they would take photos and send them to Toyota Aust as they do not want to replace them at their cost. They asked me what i cleaned the interior with as they were going to blame it on the cleaning product but i told them all i use is a damp cloth. Has anyone else noticed a change in colour on any part of the interior trim? It seems strange as my car is garaged 95% of the time, so it may be another fault to haunt the Kluger.

My black interior trim tends to get white marks everywhere, especially from finger marks. I've been using Meguiars Gold Class Dash & Trim Foam Protectant, which seems to clear it up and prevent them some what. I did notice something when I was washing the car yesterday and need to have a closer look.

I get the same white marks wherever the plastic trim is touched as well - I thought this would go away and was because the car was new - seems not to be the case. :(

I haven't noticed a colour change.

Well i heard back from the dealer today and was told that toyota have denied the warranty claim (what the f***)No explanation given so i contacted toyota customer relations and was told that i have to be given a reason for the denial and that if i was not happy with their answer i could dispute it through them.So now waiting for a reason from toyota's technical advisor (warranties). It's not bad that you purchase a car $40k plus and they flattly refuse to fix a manufacturing fault...will keep you posted.

Here is an update on the trim problem, the dealer said a foreign substance had been used on the interior and i had no claim. After many more calls to Toyota Customer Relations and the dealership, i decided to contact the group general manager of the dealership as i was sick of dealing with the "service" dept. After speaking to the general managers PA, not 15 minutes later i received a phone call from the service guy telling me they are going to replace all the affected trims from one of the new vehicles on the lot (i feel sorry for the person who buys that vehicle). It pays to speak to the organ grinder instead of the monkeys. So tommorrow i am going to the dealer to have the trims changed. Here are two photos of the discolouration:

Better make sure that you get a new damp cloth in future:)

I got nowhere with regards to my 'acceptably excessive tyre wear', whats this fellows name?

i have stretch my originals now to 30k! thats by flipping the tyre on rim to have the 'toyota natural wear' to occcur to the other side of the tyre, gave me an extra 10k!

tyre now is scrubbed on both sides but the middle looks as good as new! lol new tyres are in shed ready for installation sooooon...before winter i spose.

I taking this thing to a tyre and suspension specialist next month to investigate this, and fix it before the new ones go on.

Im sure I read somewere else on the net that this happened to another Fellow Gen II Kluger Owner. Black to Purple was in the title of the thread or whatever.

Hi Ash40,

How old is your Kluger? Wondering if it something that would have already occured, or if I need to keep an eye out. My KX-R is 18 months old.

Thanks,

Snowy68

Hi Snowy68

My kluger has a compliance date of Nov 2008 so it's only 15 mths old, but i do recall when we first bought the car my wife said that the rear panels looked purple and we thought it was just the light until the other door switch trims started to changed. Also went back to the dealership to look at the new klugers and found the one that our new trims came from (this one had our old ones). They must be hoping that the new buyer doesn't notice (probably what happened to us).
