Theres also a new type of red light camera getting installed in NSW that also picks up speeders besides just taking red light pictures.

I think those have been there for a quite a while. They are even signed as such. Canberra also has a few of them.

Off topic slightly, for us Queenslanders, they will be trailing a point-to-point speed camera this year on the Bruce Highway, Caloundra Road to Wild Horse Mountain, Beerburrum. This will be said to cover a 13km stretch of road. If they like how that goes, it means we may see more of these around.

Yeah, yeah. For those that are just wanting to say it... yes it can all be avoided by sticking to the limit.

actually this is a good time to bring up the newer, digital speed cameras soon to be employed in Queensland.

The tolerance for these newer cameras will be 6km/h, regardless of the speed zone you're in. No more of that ol 10% rule people seem to believe.

... still better than Victoria though

But 6km/h tolerance in a 60km//h zone is 10%

Joking aside, they mention in their FAQ's that:

Will the new digital cameras replace the current wet-film cameras?

The current wet-film cameras will eventually be replaced by digital cameras. However, as the current wet-film cameras are still effective, there is no reason to replace them immediately. The wet-film cameras will continue to operate until they
have reached the end of their operating life.

I wonder if they are close to that end.

you'll find their operating life is oddly related to whenever they can afford to be replaced - and until that day, they'll apparently be 100% accurate and without flaw... supposedly
