Driveline noise/whine at 60-80kmh

Hi, I need to know if anyone has a similar problem to what I am currently facing, I have a 2006 (current shape) RAV 4 CV, 4 cyl manual, which has done approx 43,000kms.

Towards the end of 2008, it started to develop a whining noise from the driveline which makes it's presence known anywhere from 60-90kmh.....my first trip to the dealership, Toyota replaced the transfer case, noise was still there, second time, they replaced some gears/bearings in the gearbox, still the noise was there, the last time they had a go at it, they did repairs to the diff by replacing bearings/shims etc, once again, the noise is still there, the car is well out of warranty now (expired in Aug 09), the last thing I heard from the Dealership was that Toyota want to transport the vehicle to Sydney (I live on the NSW Mid North Coast, approx 4 hrs from Sydney) to have it worked on by a dealership in Sydney, we know also have Toyota Customer Relations looking into this as well.

All the problems similiar to this I have read on various forums seem to only relate to V6 model RAV's, not 4 cyl versions?

Anyone ever heard of or had a similar issue??

Hope you had your issue resolved. I used to have the 2008 RAV4 CV manual. I had the same issue with a slight whining which got worse with age. It took quite a bit of convincing to get the local Toyota guys to acknowledge that there was an issue.

I was eventually told that it was a problem with the transfer case or something to do with the diff. However, Toyota didn't get to fix the car as it was written off in the Perth hail storms almost 2 years ago.

Once again, hope you had yours fixed properly by Toyota.

The Sydney Morning Herald had an article in the drive section that states theat there is a cloud over the reliability of the Rav 4 = A small glitch in the Automatic Transmission can lead to bigger problems if left unattended. The first hint is a transmission thump or slippage. So it appears that there may be a Toyota design fault in the Auto transmission.
