Some questions..... about my new Stivo

Recommended Posts

Just picked up a 2005 model 5Y sportivo, and am just wanting to get some ideas and maybe some links as i have been searching for a while on the net about some things

1. the speakers for the car, i know the fronts are 6.5", what are the back speakers? and if they are smaller than a 6.5" what is the biggest size you can fit in them

2. TRD Intake. i have been looking high and low for these. I called Castle hill toyota, and they said they haven't been able to get hold of them for about a year or so now. if anyone has bought one recently, can you please let me know where you got it from

3. are there any how to guides, or instructions on how to remove the stereo unit and door trims to install the stereo?

thanks in advance

Andrew

The speakers in the doors are the same size front and back, 6.5 is the biggest i think can fit in. Best thing to do about a TRD intake would be to canvass the members here and keep an eye on ebay....TRD stopped production/imports into aus or something like that a while ago, have you thought about ingen? look at the CAI buyers guide in the topics here, is very helpful. As to the door trim its just a few clip-thingys they just pop out given a bit of muscle, start down in he bottom corner opposite the speakers, then lift vertically to clear the window frame, its pretty straight forward. The centre facia, i start with the gear shifter cover where the cigarette lighter is, just pop that out (clip-thingys again) take the wires out of the back, and just work upwards, pop out the A/C controls and take the wires out of the back as well, then the top A/C vents pop out too then just a 10mm socket screwdriver and a phillips-head screwdriver and its easy, u'll probly want to go to Autobarns or supersh!t to get adaptor plugs...just ask you friendly neighbourhood shop assistant and he should be able to help.

Make sure you read the pinned topics in http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showforum=4

Most of the questions that you can think of might already have answers here .

I found it very helpfull when i 1st got the sportivo and the rest you will see will be repeating problems . crunching gears , etc .

Just a tip , be carefull with what you do on the car and the money you spend , have seen a lot of people spend a fair bit and at the end parting out.

Not too sure if this is because of boredom.

thanks for that info chaps. thats really helpful. I've just moved from a 1997 VVT-i manual soarer into this, and am loving it. i already have the stereo from my soarer (double din Alpine unit, Focal front splits, 12" sub in a tube, couple of amps) that sort of thing. i mainly want to get the CAI just to help in the breathing of the engine just before lift hits. it would be awesome to change the lift from 6200 to 5200, coz in the 5400 - 6000 rpm it just feels a little asthmatic.

i'm a pretty big DIY person, and if i can make it, i will. i have access to a computer routing machine so will be making up some MDF speaker adapters so i don't have to wreck the factory speakers. other than that, i'm going to be "borrowing" the 17" enkei's off my mums AE111 levin, coz, well, i need bigger rims than her :P

as for exhausts, is just a better flowing muffler suited, coz the factory system looks pretty darn good from what i saw underneath the car today.

thanks guys for the input

Congrats on your purchase mate.

with exhausts from my experience with these cars, is they like to breathe well.

i ran a 2.5" Mandrel bent Stainless system on mine. combined with ported headers, the torque improved, but in lift there was a significant difference in response/power.

look for a good quality straight through muffler, and mate it with the mandrel system and you're laughing. Xforce MP02 or a Varex system is what i would reccomend.

good luck with it all....

BKS.

thanks for that BKS. i was looking at the CES website today, and they seem to have a really nice catback system (i'll get a new cat put on as well) all stainless and within noise limits. so i may look at that.

other than that, i'm not going to go over the top at the moment (at least until this time next year) as i have found out that the car still has an extended factory warranty on the car.

but definitely the first thing to change is the stereo system.
