I've noticed that when I drive my corolla around, after some time there would be this louder roar coming from my engine. I would drive without the aircon or fan on and the noise would still come about, however if I do drive with the aircon on, the noise is more frequent. It comes and goes but I have no idea what it is, and don't find it to be normal at all.

Does this happen with anyone else's corolla?

its teh VVTiL!

nah its the thermo fan coming on when the temp gets to a certain point. it will stay on until the engine cools down to a certain point then repeat then the coolent heats up again.

it would be more frequent when in traffic but driving on freeways it shouldnt be so offten (or not at all).

keep an eye on your temp guage.

To be sure whether it's the fan, start the car with the hood popped and let it get up to operating temperature. At some point, the fan will start turning. You'll know when it does - it's really unmistakable. If that sounds something like the roar you hear driving around, that's probably what it'll be.
