7th gen fuel quality

Does anyone know what would happen if I run my 7th gen celica on regular unleaded instead of the usual premium unleaded? Reason is I'm planning on driving it interstate and not sure the petrol stations on the way would have premium fuel.

Most servo's have 98 octane... unless you are planning on driving in remote areas.

The car should handle it fine, but it will be a bit down on power... I assume the ECM can pull timing if it knocks with the lower octane fuel... (one of the zze or zzt boys can confirm)

I would try and run it on 98 when possible though.

2zz needs 98, 91 will cause it to ping like there is no tomorrow. I wouldn't go below 95, and even that causes a bit of pinging under high loads. BP will more than likely have 98 on offer.

If you space your fuel stops appropriately, you should have no issue finding at least 95 RON premium unleaded. Even on my drive from Adelaide to Brisbane, I was able to fill up with 95 RON from all these petrol stations in the middle of nowhere. I only had one stop where I absolutely couldn't get any premium, but I guess I was lucky for that.

So if you don't happen to come across 98 RON, you will at least be able to get some 95 which should keep you relatively safe.

Thanks for the replies. Has anyone driven from Perth to Melbourne and managed to get at least RON 95 petrol at the stations along the entire journey?
