Throttle Response

Hi guys,

when i first drove my corolla i noticed that when i push the throttle to move off the lights or similar, it first does nothing, and when i go down a bit more it suddenly starts moving quite fast. I could probably get used to this but its kinda annoying.

Also on hills etc. i have like 10cm that i can go down on the accelerator and nothing happens but i guess thats normal for this type of engine.

So my question is...is there a way to get the pedal to be smoother? So it doesnt accelerate so sudden but instead starts moving very smooth?

Hey mate, have a read of the link above. It's not that it does nothing, just a bit of lag due to the "drive-by-wire" (electronic) rather than it being a direct cable link to the throttle body like in older cars. It's not just Toyota doing this, other manufacturers are doing it also.

At first, the accelerator is weird but over time, you'll adapt your footwork and get use to it. :)

When you say "it starts moving suddenly and not smooth", are you applying constant pressure on the accel pedal?

i press the accelerator slightly but constant yea.
