1979 Crown

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have recently purchased a 1979 Toyota Crown Super Saloon here in Adelaide. Little old man second owner and it's got original 130,000ks on the clock and is in excellent condition.( See pic attached) The engine still runs OK but has quite a lot of tappet noise and I would eventually like to put a 1J engine in it. Does anybody out there know which 1J engine would fit in the easiest without any engine mount changes?

I spend a lot of time in Thailand where they are experts at putting late model engines in cars. I lot of older Crowns have a later model engine fitted ( 1J or 2J ) I called a couple of engine importers today here in Adelaide and the prices are well over the top. They had a 1GG 2000 Supercharged engine that would go in OK for $1400 plus fitting costs on top. I also have a Crown in Thailand ( an MS112 1980 which has a 7M engine fitted.) and recently got a price for fitting a 1J. They have various grades of engines from A to D with A being the best with below 50,000 ks on it. Grade A fitted with all electrics done etc would cost around $800 Aussie. I reckon I can buy a grade A engine with all related electrics etc in Bangkok for about $400 or $500 Aussie and ship it here landed for about $700.

Anybody got any idea what I could have a straight forward fit done for in OZ?

Look forward to any info from other members.

Graeme
