G'day guys I'm new to the club. I just found out about it and decided to join. I have just become the proud owner of my fourth Toyota this one being a 1997 3dr starlet 1.3L. My previous cars were a 1975 KE30 corolla sedan, 1974 corona MKII 2dr coupe and a 1978 BJ40 project I didn't get to finish before selling.

I'm now concentrating on the starlet and my question is....

Does anyone know if I could replace my engine gearbox and diff in the starlet with a 1.6L 4AGE 16v engine gearbox and diff?

Will it fit?

Will it be too much time and effort?

How much body modification will it entail?

If anyone could help that would be awesome...

Cheers guys

Matt

IMO a 5EFTE (starlet turbo motor) is a better choice, as it will easily fit.

You mean 4EFTE :P The 5EF(H)E is the 1.5L non-turbo.

Thanks guys but how many kw is the 4EFTE? I wanted at least 100kw lol?

thats the one. I knew it was either 4 or 5 lol.

'S' motors are my speciality haha.

I don't really want a turbo anything else you can suggest?

4EFTE's have 100kw and you can get more power out of them with simple mods rather than a 4AGE. turbo's are easier to extract power from.

Cheers bro but don't they chew alot more fuel?

Posted

They would probably use less than a 4AGE, esp if you are just putting around town.

regardless your fuel consumption isnt going to be that high with either engine.

Awesome thanks mick what about conversions hard and costly or easy if I use the 4EFTE?

Posted

It would be much easier, since that is the same engine family as in the starlet you have now.

If you could get a starlet GT half cut, its just a matter of doing a big parts swap really.

Thanks for the help I'll start saving hahaha....

Not just same family, same basic engine (he'll have the 4EFE in the at the moment) just not turbo

As mentioned above a 4EFTE swap, aside from some wiring, is a straight swap into the other chassis

How about getting a 4AGE Silver Top, those engines come in the Corolla GT-i, and Corolla Levin, they are awesome engines. You could get it imported from japan, they are relatively cheap . They have 20 valves, and produce a fair amount of 118 kW, they are not turbocharged so they fulfill your requirements. There is a picture of the engine. BTW its a great looking engine!

Good luck!
