Touch up paint

Anyone got any tips on best practice for using touch up paint? I just want to fix up some of the tiny nicks and bits accumulated over the years. I have the proper paint from Toyota, they were just very vague on details for applying it. Trying to steer me down the path of using their people for the job (with a very rough ballpark price lol).

As simple as the job sounds Im just looking for help on prepping the area or coating after the job is done, or anything else people have come across.

I spent a few hours one Sunday afternoon doing mine. These are the steps i followed to get it done;

- Washed front with Morning fresh (and the rest of the car as I was prepping it for a claybar and polish the following weekend) to remove contaminents and wax from paint

- Furthur rubbing down of the spots around the areas of the stone chips/scratches with Wax and Grease remover

- Using a No.1 size hobby brush (extremely fine) dabbed the stone chips with paint, enough to adequately fill the pits made and then some to potentially be rubbed back later to a smooth finish (I didn't bother with this as on a white car you can hardly tell)

- Let the paint set for ATLEAST 48 hours so its nice and hardened (I left mine 7 days as I was planning to polish and didn't want to risk it)

- Apply coat of wax to protect once set

What do you do/use first if there is a small paint chip and the metal has started rusting?

When i fixed up some rust on my boot lid is cleaned with wd-40 and sandpaper first, for small stone chips that have a little rust i seen at supercheap auto they had a pen that cleans the rust and preps the area. Just can't think what the brand was though.
