Shudder/shake on Camry hybrid 2010 model

Hi All

has anyone notice that there a shudder / shake mainly when the engine gets hot while driving then when it change over from battery to petrol thats where it happens. Can anyone tell me what it is.

ever since toyota got its hand on my car there is quite the rattle and shakes when it first start cold.it goes away when it gets warm.

my fuel consumption has gone from 6.9 to 8.6 in the past year.

Had the car serviced put its still there...

does it need a tune up before its 75k service?

I also have felt a shudder / shake engine sometimes.

For me it happens mainly while the engine is cold or when the hybrid battery is in low capacity.

At the moment it's very rarely happen, so I'm just keep watching on it.

Luckly, I have 3 years extended factory warranty, so it may help.

Can't say I recall that happening when we had a 2010 HYbrid.

When the battery gets low in the 2010 series and the 2012 series the petrol engine can sometimes kick in a bit more suddenly and run a bit harder but wouldn't call it a "shudder/shake" ....

Hi, sorry for the late reply to this thread.

I have been experiencing this for the last year with the issue gradually getting worse. Currently my car is at the service centre apparently getting carbon build-up cleaned out with acid and ultrasound to fix this issue (And costing me about $600). My shudder/shake was occuring almost every time the car switched between electric and petrol and also noticed my fuel consumption averaging at about 7.5L/100km vs the 6.5 it was getting before.

If anyone knows what this is and how to prevent it for cheaper, please do shed some light!

Just posting an update on my maintenance mentioned in the previous post.

I got my car back a couple days ago from the repairs which were carried out. The car actually drives as good as when I first got it if I must say so myself. However they didn't mention any method of preventing the carbon build-up from occurring again, all they said was that it has to be cleaned every few years and they're also still learning about the issues.

So if anyone has experience with this, please let us know, I'm not too car savvy myself to know about this!

      Aurion 2005 transmission issue

      Sealed transmission essentially means that the transmission does not have a dipstick. The U660E transmission fitted to the Toyota Aurion has a 24mm fill bolt and a drain bolt with a 6mm hex key. Your vehicle is more than 10 years old and has travelled more than 100,000 miles [160,000 KMs]. If you want the transmission to last, then replacement of the ATF is recommended. For your specific vehicle, based upon my DIY experience and lots of internet research since 2016, I would be just doing a pan drain and fill. At this stage, Definitely NOT a transmission flush to replace all of the fluid. Easiest method involves an accurate measurement of the drained ATF [at ambient/room temperature] and replacement with an equivalent amount. Repeat the pan drain and fill annually for the next 3 years. Following link to other threads in this Forum will give you more information about replacing the ATF for the U660E transmission.

      I don't have any transmission specialist around in this town. I did call and check multiple mechanics around here but they all say its sealed and there's no need to replace the fluid. I lived with this issue for at least 2 years because the 4-5 different mechanics said my car was fine, so instead of going back to other mechanics and looking dumb I just lived with it. I eventually got sick of it, read more about the torque converter issues with these cars and got it checked by another mechanic one last time. We went for a test drive, the problem happened and he knew what I was talking about. He quoted me the $700-760 for a fluid and filter change with Nulon ATF. I was told it could work and it might not, but I'm tired of living with it so I might as well just try and see what happens.

      What is the odometer reading of your vehicle? I would suggest viewing the following or similar YouTube videos. Replacement of the ATF will greatly improve gear shift changes. This YouTube video provides another viewpoint for your consideration.

      I have checked: the cost of a filter kit is ~$120 and the most expensive fluid is $68. Add a couple of hours labour @$100 / hour, gives a total of $380. I assume that the job is reasonably straight forward. Why not try an auto transmission place, for a quote. Herb

      Tyres Upsize / Suspension - Hilux Workmate 2012

      Hello everyone, I recently purchased a 2012 Hilux Workmate (TGN16R, single cab, cab chassis) and have a few questions. My typical setup includes a toolbox and a trundle drawer loaded with gardening tools, a lawn mower, and hand tools (shovel, pick, crowbar). I estimate my constant load to be around 150 kg. Occasionally, I carry bags of fertilizer or mulch (+100/200kg), and sometimes I transport up to 1/2 ton of mulch or soil (I try not to exceed this limit). The vehicle currently has 205/70R15 tyres. What’s the largest tyre size I can upgrade to without lifting the vehicle or significantly affecting the odometer? Would 215/70R15 or 215/65R16 be suitable? Of course i will consider speed and load ratings. Any recommendations? Is it possible to reinforce the rear suspension for heavier loads (e.g., mulch or soil) without lifting the vehicle? I notice that on this load the rear just goes down dramatically, and my mechanic says the suspension is all right. If I opt for a 1" lift (garage height constraints prevent anything taller), is this feasible? Any recommendations for achieving this? Thank you very much for any help!
