Help Needed, 2008 Camry Ignition Key - Wollongong Area

Hi all,

My ignition key housing has torn (heavy handed mate) and as such my key is now buggered, the little chip thing that was in the key has also gone errant.

My Query is;

Anyone know where I can get another and approximate costs of?

It's my only key... ;-(

Thanks in advance

You need to get a locksmith out to reset your ECU and code in a new key. Expect to pay anywhere from $300 to $700... AND GET A SPARE!!

How did the chip go missing? In the original keys it is glued in the remote keys and molded into the rubber head keys. If you find that chip you will safe yourself hundreds.

The chip has just fallen out its a little square type thing that just pushes in adjacent the actual key itself. I had my mate move my vehicle and he put key in wrong way and broke/split the black housing. Key has worked fine until I just discover the chip now missing...could be bloody anywhere..

was thinking of calling toyota tomorrow..

bloody pain this is...

Toyota are going to quote you $3,000 plus. New lockset, immo box and keys... and you will be waiting a week for the parts.

If Toyota tries that on thats rubbish.... I'll see what the gods of eBay say ;-)

And look for what?

To code in a new key you need a Master key to get the car into programming, you have no keys right.

the thing thats lost is called a transponder chip

Yes, I know. I have about 100 of them in my workshop. The chip has to be coded into your car, how are you going to do that?

To do it you need an EXISTING master key or a Virgin ( NEW ) ECU. An auto locksmith can reset your ECU and code in a new transponder chip.

There are also a couple of different chips, you need the correct one to be able to code it into your car.

good search in the driveway yield success.... now for a new key...as I've found and reslotted in the transponder

Good news. A spare key will only around the $100 mark.

I recommend getting your spare cut to code too ( It costs a little more) because then it doesn't have any of the wear that your current key has.

Thanks for all your input (mr2). ^_^

That's okay.

When I do these keys for customers I always glue the insert and the chip in, this way it doesn't fall out and get lost.
