Wanting a V6 MR2

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, my names Robbie and I'm from Melbourne.

As you might have guess by my user name I own 2 freakn awesome cars my daily driver mr2 and my 100% project car (sooooo much rust) Datsun 260z 2 seater.
because I use my mr2 as a daily, the k's are slowly racking up on it and I also have a few major services that if I can I'd prefer to skip and instead, whack a whole new engine in its place!
So my idea is to grab a cheap 6 and get a rebuild kit for it and over time slowly piece it back together. Then, when the time is right, I'll swap it over for the 3sge (maybe even get some money back!).
Until recently I was mostly considering a 3vzfe as you can pick one up for under 500 bucks, from what I've heard it's easier to fit, and a lot easier to draw more power out of than the 1mzfe. But I would only consider the 1mz is if I could get it with vvti, but it seems that those engines can be very expensive...
Now I'm starting to lean towards the 1MZ-FE as I realise that a 50kg difference in weight is very decent.

Now I'm on the quest for a nice low K 1MZ-FE but they are somewhat difficult to find so I've come on here to see if anyone could help. The two cars they came in in Australia are the Lexus ES300, and the Estima which are both relatively new. Where would be the best place to find one of these written off?

Thanks guys!

you can also get 1mz from camrys, gen 4 & 5 and Avalons

usually pickles has some, where abouts in vic are you from ?

Fixed it up for you Jeffy. 3VZ was in the Gen 3(93-97) and the 1MZ was in the Gen 4 & 5(98-02/02-06).

However you are chasing the VVT-i model, have you considered a 2GR-FE?

These guys also have a lot of experience with various swaps.

Yeah, from what I've heard the Camry in Australia never had the VVTi 1MZ :(

The 2GR-FE would be fine, but it's not like I'm chasing that sort of extreme power. If the price works out to be similar and the conversion as simple it is something I would do.

Hmmm that website you posted doesn't seem to work :/

It seems as though the 2GR-FE would be a decent amount more work from the little research I've done. Can anyone correct me?

I'm from Ivanhoe (north east).
