I just purchased a 2002 VXI Avalon with 82000 kilometres. After having car a couple of days noticed small amount of smoke on start up and after pulling off front rocker cover noticed it was quite badly sludged then pulled off back cover and also sludged.I spent about 6-8 hours and a large amount of cans of brake cleaner, small brushes and a bit of a coat hanger and it actually came up excellent. With the help of a local mechanic he towed car to his garage and took both sumps off and I cleaned out sludge from the steel pan, the other alloy part wasn't too bad, he sprayed and cleaned the bearings and the pickup and it all came up excellent.

It was a nervous wait until it was put together and once new oil was added presto no oil light came on and it appears all good and now the car will have regular oil changes every 5000 k's.

So anyone out there give it a go,cost to me was $400.00.

Attached is a pic before I began the clean but no pics after the clean but it did come up near new.
