Hi eneryone i am new to the club and was wondering if anyone can give me any info on towing in 5th gear wit my 91 model 80 seies 4.2 turbo diuesel .i have had conflicting reports wether you should or should not tow a van ( 900 Kgs ) in 5th gear . Anyhelp with this would be much appreciated

Mushie,

Just been talking about this with a mate. From what we understand all is good with fifth gear as long as you don't leave it in fifth and labour up hills etc. Basically use your gears properly. We were told that if you let it labour while in fifth you will risk "stretching" the gears.

Hello Gavin ,and thanks for your reply. I thought that this may be the case and I have always driven the car in this manner as i am used to changing gears in the Heavy vehicle I drive ,but wasn't sure about the 5th gear in the 4B. Again thanks for your reply .It puts My mind at ease a bit more
