Hi All,

I recently purchased a 2010 RAV 4 cruiser. The car is great, but I have noticed an extremely annoying rattle in the back cabin. Upon investigation seemed to be in the right panel inside where the jack is stored. Seemed at the time that the jack was hitting the metal surround where it sits. I took the jack out and it seemed to quieten it down. The rattle has now returned and its more annoying than ever, so frustrating that it really annoys me and makes for an un pleasant drive. Anyone in the car with me asks what is that damn rattle.

Has anyone else experienced this? I need to get back in the cabin while someone else drives to check its definitely coming from that same spot where the jack is, its the exact same noise, but I dont even have the jack in the car.

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Clarky

Not that I am aware of, couldn't see any, but I will double check that tonight

Checked there is no tooling in there. From what I can see where the jack sits there is a metal plate it sits on thats what seems to be causing all the drama, even with the jack removed.

Secure it with tape, zipties, etc. and take it for a drive to confirm it is the issue.

Hi Craig, we own a 2011 ZR6 and had a similar problem, to me it sounded like an old squeaking station wagon when we drove along the 5km of dirt we do everyday. The kluger had no such issues. Like you i thought it may have been the tools, then I thought it may have been the shocks or the trim rubbing. We established it was on the right hand side, just like yours. It ended up being the hinges on the door getting dust on them and not enough lubricant. I think because all the weight of the door, including the spare, is on the hinges on the right hand side, they are put under a lot of strain. I sprayed them with WD40, and put machine oil in them... the squeaks went away and we had a quiet car just like the kluger! Next time I had it into the Toyota dealer I requested them to particularly grease it with the proper stuff and the squeaks haven't returned.

I hope this helps, and let us know how you go

Guys the squeak comes from the rear door latch guide. If you look at the rear door latch there is two parts, the lock and a guide, get some adhesive foam(foam with a sticky backing) and stick the foam around the guide and the squeak will disappear.
