Runx RSI vs GolfV GTI

A VVTL-i controller only allows you to make a minor adjustment to when lift kicks in ... from the anecdotal evidence I've heard, maybe 5,500 is as low as it'll go. Even then, you make little or no difference to available torque, so the GTI still has the advantage there.

Besides, if you're going to spend that much just to drop your lift revs that little bit, think about what the same dollars can do to the turbo in the GTI! :P

What same dollars? lol, don't you even think that the GTI is over-priced. For *** sake who would blow 40+g's for a golf gti??? I could add 10g's more and buy a brand new sti or evo. My point is that there is a 10g difference between gti and sportivo. 10 GRANDDD !!!! You talking about tuning gti. Yeh blow 40+g's for a hot fast hatch and then say i'll add this i'll add that because it can't keep up with a 10g marked down price sportivo with a turbo setup & more power than a standard gti. The only reason gti has torque is because of turbo. Nothing else. Sportivo is n/a and it's good as the gti in performance. Meanwhile people do modify these cars and for performance tunes and money saving wise, sportivo would murder gti. Sportivo is lighter, cheaper and faster tuning wise. :) after taking delivery of sportivo and start tuning. I will personally link videos on to this site and show you what a gti can do against a sportivo. :)

now you might be excited that your new sportivo is on the way... but if you haven't done a decent amount of K's in both cars how are you even remotely qualified to comment on a performance comparison?

from the cost of your list of planned mods in the other thread, you MIGHT get close to a stock V5 GTI's performance. Too bad if the GTI owner gets a $1400 ECU reflash... Then you're not even close even if you soupercharge your 2006 stivo :P

Im going to start modifying as soon as i pick up the rolla sportivo. Starting with an exhaust system from blitz, air filter from trd or k&n, flywheel from trd and 18 or 19 inch wheels. Followed by Bilstein adjustable suspension. If money left, maybe even a carbon fibre bonnet.

You sound either young, inexperienced or even both... which one is it? ;)

I don't want to argue with anybody and im open to hearing everyone's comments with respect but, You sound like a non-toyota fan which is a first and i think your still forgetting the point that gti is turbo and sportivo isnt, gti is 150kg's heavier and sportivo isn't. Stock standard, gti might be a little quicker but what im trying to say is that, if you put both cars into tuning, i say that sportivo would come out more effective. I've been driving since i was 14. I am young but i am definately not inexperienced. Can you see a gti without a turbo anywhere near good as the sportivo? Because i can't. Ofcourse it's going to take a while for me to get started with the tuning because i don't want to do any mods or even go hard on the throttle before 4-5000 kms. Personally i even think that if the sportivo was a little lower and had 1 size bigger rims, it would look hotter than the 5th gen golf gti. That's just personal opinions but as i was saying, im trying to decide which modification parts im thinking of buying as im still not sure if i should go with a s/c or a turbo, but im leaning more on the turbo. Im definately going 18's from the Fabulous range but the first 2 mods for the car is wheels and some adjustable suspension. I'll paste some pics of the wheels im thinking of buying. Open for all ideas, cheers Buri :)

hook, line and sinker...

Driving since you were 14 means SFA in terms of real experience. How many hundred thousand km's have you personally clocked up?

I'm quite confident I'm much more of a toyota fan than you are, but I only have two heavily modified toyotas in my garage at the moment. I've owned and modified 8 of my own toyota's extensively (not just rims, fullisyk intake and exhaust... REAL modifications like engine swaps, turbo/supercharger installation etc.) I've also owned and modified a bunch of other non-toyota's as I'm not biased towards one particular manufacturer. I see a car for what it is and it's real world potential. eg, why bother buying a sportivo for "performance" when for $5K on top of the price of a new ascent, you can have an ascent which will wipe the floor with Northy's sportivo... ;)

The VW is streets ahead in terms of build quality over the sportivo, it has no squeaks, rattles, etc and it feels solid in comparison to the most recent corolla's (especially the SA built sportivo's) bang for buck, the VW wins hands down.

I bet that will fuel some fires around here :P

I would like to see your DRIVING EXPERIENCE in europe, record it on video and paste it on this website so i can what you really drive like. When you were playing with toyota's, we were putting on supercharges on m3's back in 1998(first in the world). Changing motors is easier than modifying an engine. You look like a gti fan more than a sportivo fan. Yes, i am new compared to u as a sportivo fan but you just don't see the basics of power/weight measures and tuning. Do you even know how much price difference there is in tuning between volkswagen and toyota??? If you prefer an ascent over a sportivo corolla, i got no comments to make to you. This is a GTI your comparing it to. Not a golf r32.

I own a GTI Golf, I also own a 1000kg turbo corolla... boo hoo... My corolla is faster than the golf, but it's faster than all the sportivo's, levins and ascents on this site too ;)

So how old are you really?? ;)

That's because there's no such thing as a GTI without a turbo! :P

I know that :P They have to put a turbo in it to make it fast. :)

True, but Toyota had to put lift on the Corolla to make it fast (no offence to those stove-hot 1ZZ's out there!) ;)

Now rollamods ..... as good as it must feel to wipe the floor with northy's sportivo .... it mustnt be much of a match up considering corey's car doesnt have an engine .... so that doesnt say much for ur ascent :P :P :P :P :P :P :P ........ Flame suit on :P :P :P

Don't worry, I've already lined up a decent match for Corey's car... a Seca with flintstones power!

Have to be in agreeance with rollamods here, you sound a bit on the 'missguided' side here mate. Regardless of driving experience, if you are buying a new car, you need to come to an understanding of the potential of the vehicle. The stivo for example...this is a car that comes stock with a reasonable engine, however poor transmission thanks to the clutch issue and i would say somewhat nasty suspension. Take a look at the users on this site as an example - they have not chopped into forced induction mods or engine internals for a reason. That sort of crap is extremely costly for these cars and basically it does not justify when you can get far superior performance cars for the amount of cash you need to sink in the stivo. If you do really care about performance then forget a set of 18's, they are for clowns, they are too heavy unless you have a spare 4k for some Enkeis. Spend the money where you get the most worth, as well as on aspects of the vehicle that are lesser in strength. I mentioned the mediocre stock sussy, a new setup there is a most worthy investment and will greatly improve the drivability of the vehicle. Aftermarket clutches seem to also have gotten a good appraisal. Start of with some basic mods, like intake and slight exhaust mods, so you understand really how the car behaves to modifications. If you are still so naive to think that sinking $10k of forced induction work into a stivo is worth it...go and find some people who really know about cars and they will crucify any super or turbo charged (sub $50k worth of work of course :P ) stivo with a $10k worth mid 90's FWD car varying from older rollas, to Daihatsu Charades. And these older cars will still most definitely outlast the somewhat negligable build quality of the sportivos.

This sounds like your first car man, so don't be a clown and go blowing $40k on it after you figure out it doesnt cut it and you can only resell it for $20k. Understand that the stivo will never be an F1 car or a show car, they are good for a bit of a thrash and look the part, but IMHO it isnt worth taking it any further than that.

Apologies to seasoned stivo owners on here, they are not as bad as i have made out, but Mr 18s Turbo'd sportivo here needs to understand some basic concepts of vehicle ownership for the car enthusiast.
