Echo Vs Polo

Recommended Posts

I have another comparison for you all.

2003 Echo Vs 03 VW Polo. (both manual)

For the Echo:

More power

Cheaper to insure

Cheaper to buy and maintain

looks ok and plenty to choose from

For the Polo

Euro

Looks more expensive

Classier interior

Only has a 55kw 1.4 :(

Better resale

Both are about the same price (Polo a bit more).

Which is the better drive and buy?

I can't say I'm a big fan of the Echo, but my recent experiences with VW maintenance is enough to swing me towards the Toyota.

My sister-in-law's Golf cost over $800 for its 4 year/50,000km service, and even worse, at just 36,000km, the brake pads and discs are had it ... according to VW, they are consumable items, so she is looking at another $1100 to replace them.

I realise that you're not asking about a Golf, but VW service is expensive across the range, and at those prices, you'll lose the resale difference pretty quickly.

Also, if you're holding onto the car longer term, when new parts become scarce, you might find the Echo is even worth more at that time.

My series 4 VW 1.6 golf…..80,000kms ($10,000 for a new 5 speed gearbox as the other one was “like a bomb had gone off inside it”.

The Battery the most expensive and it was extremely hard to get a brake light bulb.

Resale on Euros is ok when they are newish but after 5 years no one wants one, but a second hand Toyota you would recommend to your brother sister, son or daughter :P

It was nice to drive when it was going..... but I went back to Toyota ;)
