I recently changed the door lock barrels on my 2001 RAV4. I also bought the matching ignition switch and I tried to change the old one completely. Everything turned on except the vehicle would not start.

I put the original switch back but with the new lock barrel. Again everything came on but the engine would still not start.

I then put the old barrel back and again no starting.  I then did the turn on and leave on for 10min 30sec then off , repeated 3 times. Still no starting.  I then locked and unlocked the driver's door and took the immobilizer fuse out and simply put it back. She started.

How or what do I need to do to get the new barrel at least to work so I again have a common key for doors and ignition?

Note my ignition keys  original or new are not the button type, in fact the original was actually after market and the new is genuine Toyota but from a wreckers yard.

Help please

I think you took the long way around with this. If you needed to replace just the door locks, you could have simply purchased the new door locks and had them keyed by a locksmith to the existing key system without having to replace the ignition too. Your ignition key has a transponder chip inside it so the vehicle knows it has the right key in it for to start. When you start messing with the ignition, the ECU won't recognise the key and things start to get messy.

You may have to get the new key coded to the ECU for it to work. Talk to an automotive locksmith. He will be able to explain it a bit better.
