Hi team,
I have been to my local Toyota dealer and they have not been able to help with my intermittent problem. I am hoping someone may have heard of a similar issue.

My 79 series that has done 80000 km occasionally just dies under acceleration like the motor has stopped. This has been going on for 2 years slowly getting worse.
No dash lights come on and taking my foot off the pedal and JUST reapplying we will takeoff again. Some times it comes good in 10 seconds and the longest has been 3 minutes.

I have used a scan tool and no codes are being thrown
I have 2 fuel filters and these are changed alternately every 10000 km.
I use a fuel additive
This issue my happen once per tank or once every 3 tanks.
I can’t reproduce the issue.
The throttle has always been half to three quarters applied when this has happened
So far the tank has always been less than half full when the issue has happened.

I love my cruiser and am heading back to the big island next year so need to fix the issue but have no idea where to start.

Hey Jim,

did you end up finding the cause of this issue. My 2017 single cab 79 has been doing the same thing very intermittently.

I had this problem when the car was new.  Problem was a faulty brake switch.  Engine power is somehow disconnected when brakes are applied.  Switch replaced under warranty and never done it again.  Switch apparently activating even with foot off pedal.
