Brisbane V Perth..... mmm, Id say Perth is prolly a slower lifestyle as it is a smaller city. Brisbane is larger and faster than Perth. And apparently we have the cheapest fuel in Australia.... LOL

Brisbane is the 3rd largest city in Oz after Sydney and Melbourne

What other questions do you have....

I forgot to add the the City of Brisbane is also the largest in the Southern Hemisphere by area.

Health Care....mmm, not bad if you have Private health Insurance and you can pick which hospital and specialist you want. Relying on the public system can be a bit hairy some times, but please do not believe everything you read in the papers about Queensland Health.

I actually work for Queensland Health and I get to see the goods and the bads, and I will back the public system here in Queensland 100%.

Australia is made up of 6 States and 2 Territories, and each one has their own public health and education systems. I cant speak for Western Australia's (Perth) but I know Queensland is not as bad as made out.

Rosewood is out the other side of Ipswich, which is around 45 - 60 minutes drive from Brisbane CBD. Not the place I would be living if I were working in Brisbane, cause Ipswich Road in morning traffic can make that run last around 2 hours.

Police in Australia are generally pretty good, again, each state has their own, and have the usual police issues but overall are pretty good. (certainly not a lot of Rodney King type incidents)

Snakes, well Australie does have like 8 of the top 10 deadliest snakes in the world. The Eastern Brown is probably the only one in Brisbane that you would encounter around Brisbane that would be of much concern, but not something that you are going to see every day of the year. Infact, I have never seen one in the built up area of Brisbane in the years and years and years I have been living here.

Carpet Snakes are a little more common, but they don't hurt you. In the more leafy areas of Brisbane these are a little more common (infact my wife ran over one on the Gateway Motorway around 3 weeks ago)

Green Tree snakes are usually pretty common in leafy areas too, but again, wont hurt you.

Contrary to popular belief:

Kangaroos, Echidnas and Emus do NOT roam the streets.

Koala's are common through the suburbs if you look for them.

Ayres Rock is not walking dustance from ANY City in Australia

Electricians are one of those trades where if you are in the right time/area. there is an abundance of work. You wouldnt neccessarilly need to be in a particular area for this. Bear in mind too that Brisbane is one of the fastest growing cities in the world, so new buildings rely on electrical work (Infact where were you last weekend when I needed some extra power points installed :P )

Social Workers, again, I dont think we can ever live without and never have too many of. I know certainly in the public health system, there are usually plenty of them around.

My advice is to come over for a few weeks, scope out both cities and see which environment you like, then get the jobs pages from the locale newspapers and see how abundant the vacancies are....

Hope this helps....

Cheers

Aaron

MMm Having lived in both.

Perth is good but cooler and fairly windy, the drivers are very poor and houses are super expensive) gone up 30% in the last year) a 2 bedroom unit is like $350,000 its really hard to get anywhere to live. Its also a bit isolated.

Brisbane is more humid and warmer but has the advantage of being a cheap flight to eastern Capitals, Sydney Melbourne.

Perth has grown up a lot and has a fair range of visiting entertainers now these days. Its a big city and harder to get around. Perth is more like a big country town. Great beaches a short drive from the centre is also an advantage of Perth .....

There is a lot of Work in WA with the mining boom at the moment too.

Peth health system is fairly poo (like QLD was 10 years ago) Perth has not realised that its a big city, once it does things should improve. Lots of crazy local council rules and lack of facilities.

Hey mate,

I have lived in both cities;

Perth- stay south of the river its much nicer, good fishing and nice beaches (without heavy surf, so you pommies wont drown :P ). Australia day in Perth goes off like no other city (by 10 fold). Excellent wine. its pretty dry tho. South West WA is awesome. you will adapt to the climate well. spewing its so isolated.

Brissy- the place to go if you want action. everything you will ever want is within reach, the whole east coast is just a $60-$100 plane ticket, not to mention the pacific. The gold coast is pretty unreal. MY *** IT GETS HOT!!.

I reckon if you want to settle and bring up kids Perth may be your starter (you can always move across later)

If you want to have a bit more fun and travel around a bit, then Brissy's the go. its bloody hot!

edit: why cant I write *** will it let me write ALLAH I wonder?

2nd edit: Thats dodgy, who puts these censors in?

No probs Andy....

Liek I was saying, the best thing you could prolly do is come for a holiday and spend 2 or 3 weeks in each city and check out the vibe of each.

I live 25k's from the CBD in Brisbane which during peak hour is only around 30 - 40 minutes to get to work (I work on the fringe of the CBD). May seem like a long way, but gee, it's luxury compared with those poor sods that live outside or near the M25 (Yeah Andy, you know what I am talking about...lol )

Look us up when you get here, and I'll grab some of the guys and we'll show you the sites.... I'm sure one of the Perth Boys could do the same over there 2.....

Depending on whether you want to rent or buy too. To rent in my area would cost you around $220 - $260 for a 3 bedroom townhouse, $250 - $280 for a small 3 bedroom house or around $270 - $460 for a 4 bedroom house (depending on size ect) NB: Weekly rent rates

To buy, you are looking $250 - $300k for a 3 bedroom townhouse, $290 - $350k for a small 3 or 4 bedroom house or $350k+ for a larger house.....

Cheers

just wots your health care like, police, are snakes etc a real problem, crime?

A hell of a lot better than the US, lol

Contrary to popular belief:

Kangaroos, Echidnas and Emus do NOT roam the streets.

This is often stretched down here in the "Bush Capital"

Brisbane is more humid and warmer but has the advantage of being a cheap flight to eastern Capitals, Sydney Melbourne.

What about Canberra?? Lol. Nah it's not a real city, lol.
