  1. check ur sparkies. if u have dirty sparkies that arent igniting properly, it could throw the timing off.
  2. hmm ill hafta pull it out then and have a closer look. the float level is right there is it? ive looked through a camry service manual and there is no mention of the thing at all.
  3. does anyone know where that sensor is located? is it under the rear seat where the other filter sits? oh and ive only ever changed the filter under the bonnet. is it necessary to change both?

  5. im assuing that its an intank fuel lvl sensor as well. did i knock it? or not put it back correctly? y would i need to touch it to change a fuel filter in the bonnet of the car?
  6. far out, i just realised wat the smell was. i serviced my car yesterday and left the old fuel filter in the boot... bloody stupid of me. i took it out this morning and im currently letting the car air out. ... the first issue stands tho, wats with the whole petrol sensor not working right???
  7. im also getting a petrol smelling smell in the cabin of the car. i don't think its oil, checked around the block. ill have a look underneath tmw see if theres something down there that i cant see from the outside.
  8. G'day guys, I recently went of a road trip from Sydney to Melbourne. Whilst in Melbourne, i was refilling the petrol and i noticed that the petrol gauge on the dash was taking a long time to reach the top again. It usually just moves up as you restart the engine after a fill up. This time, it was moving heaps slow up. Now i recently noticed that it was dropping really fast. I thought initially that there was something wrong with the engine and it was drinking more than usual. But i refilled a few days later and it was using roughly 10L/100km which was normal. It had dropped to 3/4 tank by the time i refilled and it took only 13L's to top it up again. So I'm assuming that theres something wrong with the reading. Does anyone know what's a possible solution to such a problem? Anyone ever have a similar problem? Thanks Joey
  9. it says in redbook that extra urban is as low as 6.6. do they mean like constant highway driving? and 6.6 ... thats pretty nuts, i dun think i could get that low unless i was the only passenger with no luggage and in the nude.
  10. whats angel gear? and im still a lil sketchy on the info above. does gearing to neutral wen the car is stationary a good or bad thing? i get the whole driven engine while the car is moving without the gas on. not sure abt the whole if the car isnt moving thing. because there must be some driving force (ie using petrol) because as soon as u lift the brake, the car moves forward.

  12. hey guys, i was wondering if anyone could shed light onto the whole idea of shifting to neutral when the car is coasting down a hill or stopping at lights. some ppl say that it uses more petrol whilst others claim that it uses less. I used to shift to neutral all the time and now with a little more research ive strayed away from it. also, the constant shifting btw gears, would that potentially damge or make the gear box more susceptible to damage? thanks
  13. i jus got back from a melb trip and my camry was consistently around the 7.5/100km mark. thats not too bad ey? not worthy of a medal, but something u might write home about.

    yea its best to make sure before you put your money and wrench time into it. on P's tho, you're better off playing it safe i reckon. leave the engine mods till later. work on things that'll make it more personally enjoyable like audio modifications or neons inside or seat covers or tweaking the way it looks. unless ur looking for money to burn, once u get into engine modifications you'll always want to do more. its pretty taxing. n also, i have a 5sfe engine. they're pretty low in the power sector and anything you do won't really change that much. the engines werent built to take much grunt. if you were really looking to do that, you're better off spending the money on a v6. ur automatically 50kw more powerful with the swap. and its 100% legal no problems.

  20. im assuming he means a basic tune which ususally entails changing all the filters, the oil and spark plugs. a few other things too as required. im driving a 3rd gen camry I4 and i ususally sit just below 10/100L for crap city like traffic (but around parramatta). i drive it pretty conservatively myself. if i drive like a ***** all the time then im sitting around the 13 mark. which doesnt bode well with me. tbh, the fuel consumption at 10 for bloody slow driving is a lil high for me tbh. i wish it was lower. id consider giving up the camry if another car comes along at a decent price and with better fuel consumption. cruising on highways then she performs better naturally. probably around the 8-8.5 mark which is decent as well. nothing to jump through hoops about tho.
  21. what kind of camry do you drive mate? and in terms of the airintake. you could go for a simple swap and get a short ram airintake installed which is ok if you have an enclosure with forced ram air from outside. ive got that set up and ive felt an instant improvement in the throttle response which is pretty good i reckon. problem ive found with camry engines is its sluggish in the low rev range. from abt 2.5rpm onwards then ur moving pretty ok. since i like to live below that range (for better fuel efficiency) i welcome the benefits. OR alternatively you could look at a cold air intake system which will require a little more work. you'll need to find custom piping for that camry or make it yourself, which isnt too hard either for that matter. its really up to you. im sure theres someone in the forum that knows a lot more than me
  22. yea mate. those figures dont seem right at all. fully serviced and your still getting shoddy results like that... doesnt seem right. ur burning ur fuel elsewhere. theres something wrong. i don't kno if its something id be able to live with tbh. get it checked out by a few other mechanics n don't settle until you find out whats wrong with it. if you cant get it fixed ... id consider selling it. but thats just me.

  24. oh and how strictly toyota is this? i have a few mates that wouldnt mind coming a long but they drive like honda's n such. is that a problem? joey
