  1. i have a sticker underneath with code

Question i use firefox could it be the problem?

Heh well that certainly isn't a problem ;) And if your code is good then you should be able to update from Microsoft, the only reason I suggested it is because if you're running an illegal copy then the Windows Validation tool might screw up your computer..

As of trying to do a scan in safe mode can not do it ! says:

no network device was found or there is a conflict with excisting antivirus or security software

Are you talking about a local scan or are you trying to use that housecall link I gave earlier?

If you want to get onto the net then you need to go into safe mode 'with networking' however if you're trying to run Adaware/Spybot etc then there shouldn't be a problem...

  2. Anyone recommend a 3rd party + property damage policy?

You can now get 3rd party property AND theft which is a much better option IMO.

The only hassle with 3rd party is that if your car gets damaged by someone else then you have to run around getting quotes & sending letters of demand etc whereas with comprehensive insurance you just make a claim and let the insurance sort it out.

I think 3rd party property should be compulsory for all cars but that's another matter I suppose...

  3. Without even reading the review I thought the interior looked a bit cheap and then I saw this...

However, the facia is made from hard plastics, while the seat fabrics feel cheap compared to rivals'. Combined with the flimsy glovebox lids and rotary dials for the manual air-conditioning on our T3-spec model, the interior lacks the high-quality feel of the VW Golf or even the Ford Focus.

What happened to the 'Lexus quality' switchgear which was talked up on the current model? :(

EDIT: Woah, just noticed CORZZA & I joined up on the same day.

  5. Well you'd hope they have my age right... considering they do have my DOB on both the CTP And Comprehensive policy I hold with them.

Yeah you'd hope so but stranger things have happened. Check the fine print and make sure your DOB is correct as well as making sure that the chassis/engine numbers etc correspond between your CTP & comprehensive policies.

Anyway i'd suggest giving them a call tomorrow, hopefully they can sort it out over the phone and give you a new form/policy number with the correct price.

Also try the MAA calculator & see what quotes that gives you in comparison...

  6. Still its rather silly of NRMA to quote me higher on a renewal notice, when its cheaper for me the cancel and reissue.

That doesn't sound right, are you sure they have your details correct? Also is anyone under 25 driving the vehicle?

I just did the MAA calculator & it gave me the same price as you, $329 with existing comprehensive insurance...

EDIT: Just did another calculation with myself and my imaginary 24yo friend and the price jumped to - you guessed it - $590.91

  7. My first question is how old are you? ;)

Got my NRMA CTP renewal today.

Looked at it and it said $590.61!

Thats more than what i paid for it last year.

How much did you pay last year? That figure sounds about right for an under 25 in a major city.

Now the funny thing is that if i do an online quote on the NRMA website I get different prices.

Price Variation #1 = If I dont hold my comprehensive insurance with NRMA it cost $441

Price Variation #2 = If I do hold my comprehensive insurance with NRMA (which I do) it costs $329.

Once again that sounds about right for an over 25, I can't remember how much I paid last year but it was something similar.

Have you had a birthday in the meantime? If you're turning 25 after the CTP renewal is due then you still get charged the full price, even if you're turning 25 a couple of days/weeks later. I know 'cause my rego is due in July but my birthday is in August.

However if you're already 25 or older then maybe you need to update your records with the NRMA...

EDIT: Just remembered the MAA price guide http://motoraccidents-linux.vividcluster.g...t.au/index.html

  8. I though stealth ment open?

Nah stealth is good, it means that that port cannot be seen from the internet.

You can try putting a special rule into your firewall blocking any connection attempts on that port but i'm not sure if that would make a difference.

How do i install the patch it says open with program but too many to select lol

Well it's an .exe file so normally you just double click it and it should run. The system requirements also say that you need to install the SQL Service Pack 2 (I don't know whether that makes a difference) but IMO that's probably a waste of time for something you won't use.

if you wish to disable these messages here are some further instructions on how to do so, just be aware this will stop all warning messages from being displayed.

As to why your internet is stopping, I can only do some basic troubleshooting and guessing.

Hmm I just guessed it was stopping when these messages came up & while you can disable the messages that doesn't really fix the problem.

also, to ensure your PC is upto date with the microsoft patches, check that the windows update service on your PC is set to automatic.

Yep that's some good advice, or at least set it to notify you of new updates.

You could also visit http://update.microsoft.com and do an express install to patch any high priority security risks assuming your copy of Windows is legitimate ;)

  9. Have you tried scanning your system in safe mode?

Anyway as I said unless you are running an SQL server (and chances are you're not) then you have nothing to worry about.

    There is a patch here;

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en

But I doubt whether it it will make any difference, otherwise you could also just try blocking UDP port 1434 on your modem or router.

EDIT: Blocking the port is probably the easiest way to fix it, I don't know whether your modem/router has a built in firewall but mine is set to block almost all incoming connections.

EDIT 2: You can test your port on this site - https://www.grc.com/port_1434.htm - and click 'probe port'

If it shows as open then you should block it through either your hardware or software firewall...

  10. Looks like it is some sort of SQL server vulnerability whatever that means but basically you have been infected with malicious software. However lucky for you it doesn't seem to be a problem for Windows XP but I guess the pop up is still annoying.

    This site tells you how to patch your system;

    http://www.trendmicro-middleeast.com/enter...;VAdvisories=14

You could try Trend Micro housecall and see what that finds

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Failing that i'd recommend starting Windows in safe mode and running Adaware, Spybot & Anti Virus Scans...

  11. haha nice, sorry i ment router settings not desktop settings...

Did you get it sorted out?

Assuming you set it up correctly in the router (WPA-PSK) then all you need to do is find your wireless network on your desktop or laptop and type in the authentication key.

If you're using an older version of Windows XP then you might need to set up the authentication type manually but assuming it's a new laptop it should already have Service Pack 2 pre-installed which handles that automatically...

  12. i went into my desktop settings and put in an administrator password under the WPA option.

Is this correct what i have done now.

    Cheers

I don't really understand what you have done re. the desktop settings.

From what I understand you are using a desktop and a laptop and they are both connected wirelessly, correct?

You should set the password on the modem/router and then when you try to connect onto your network with either the desktop or the laptop it will ask you to enter the authentication key. Once you have done that it should remember the settings from then on.

EDIT: Here is a picture of my wireless security settings minus the SSID

    wirelesssettingsmn7.th.jpg

A little more info about your setup would be nice i.e. what brand of modem/router, how the computers are connected and whether or not you are using Windows XP SP2...

  13. As for securing the wireless access point.

The best way is to use a strong WPA encryption key as long as your laptop supports it. This site generates random keys.

    https://www.GRC.com/passwords.htm

The only problem with WPA is that some devices like Nintendo DS & PSP only support WEP encryption but either way some sort of access key is better than none.

As said above make sure your change the default login & password to your wireless access point/router

Change the wireless access point name, some people recommend turning it off completely but that can sometimes cause more trouble than it's worth.

You can also enable mac address filtering which means only your laptop will be able to gain access.

And finally you can also assign a static IP to your desktop & laptop and disable the DHCP server on your modem/router.

  14. The wrx with the scoop & mile high wing is how they come stock, and serve a purpose in feeding the top mount intercooler.

All i'm saying is that any American muscle car fan would look at that WRX & instantly think ricer or Jap crap.

As I said the other car looked pretty stock aswell, if it was a Cougar or whatever then it's an American car. I didn't see any big wings or even fancy wheels either & personally i've seen alot worse.

Dunno why i'm defending it but anyway...

  15. Hey Conquest has temperature been a factor??

Today was quite warm but the other night wasn't too bad.

I'd almost think it was the clutch slipping since it seems to rev more than drive but from a standing start it's still as quick as ever.

EDIT: Hmm but now i'm thinking about it would the higher power/torque at higher revs cause the clutch to start slipping once the car is moving?

  16. Nah just the regular unleaded ;)

Actually I sort of got a chance to test it today and i'm still not convinced, was up to 6,000rpm (i.e. just before hitting the limiter) and it was still well under 50km/h. Anyway the car needs a service so if a new batch of fuel doesn't fix it then maybe i'll mention it then.

It's a moody thing, somedays it feels like it's got a ton of power and then other days I hear all the little sqeaks and rattles...

  17. Yeah usually it's about 35/40 in 1st, 2nd gear up to about 70 & back off through the other gears from there since i'm on or close to the speed limit. There is definitely a performance difference using regular unleaded, I noticed a slight delay between putting my foot down and accelerating.

Just wondering if it has something to do with the knock sensor?

Anyway if I find a quiet road i'll try again but as it is I think i'll get it down to half a tank and top up with premium.
