  1. I can't comment regarding the transmission but:

    1) I am assuming you mean brake fluid change. Brake fluid should be changed every 2 years (or every 50000km or so) as the fluid will naturally absorb any moisture and hinder it's ability to work as it should.

    2) The 2az-fe has a timing chain so you don't need to have that serviced.

    3) Of course the unlicensed guy who has worked for Toyota for a little while and operates out of his garage at home will ask for less. If it smells bad; it probably is.

  2. maybe try using fuel doctors (from super cheap - green bottle) first, see how you go ?

These additives will not be enough to do the job. That is something you use after once you have them cleaned up first.

I have been informed (by a reliable source) that the injectors for the 1mz-fe do not respond well to ultrasonic cleaning. He said getting an on-board injector clean is the way to go. I had Lube Mobile do an onboard clean for $199.

  3. Massive loss to not only the TOCAU community but also anyone who knew him. Such a kind, generous and genuine person. Right from the moment I met him at the 2010 Sydney Annual Meet and every other time we crossed paths; he never changed.

But for me the memory of Pete will linger on. Terrible puns, satire, QI and The Who's - Won't Get Fooled Again are a bright reminder of a top bloke who was taken far too early.

    Rest well big man.

  4. - They want to charge me $140 for the oil pipe, and 1.5hrs worth of labour for the install. WORST thing is the pipe is not available in the country, and I have to wait 14 working days for them to bring it in! Does this sound right?

    - I also asked them about carrying out 120,000km service after the repair (as it has already done 117,000km already) and they wanted to charge me $490 for the service. Most dealers I called were charging $345. They lady said it was because of the brake fluid replacement, though this fluid is only 500ml, and is less than $20 at Supercheap. The reason why I want to do this service as they will need to top up the oil as most has leaked away. I think they're trying to stitch me up big time. Thoughts?

Any thoughts/advice/recommendations or insights highly appreciated.

Parts often as not are not in stock and a 14 day turnaround for a not-in-the-country part is quite good. Every part that I've ordered that has had to come from OS has been 6 weeks.

Brake fluid replacement (often referred to as a flush) requires the removal of the old fluid and replacing the new fluid which isn't as simple as topping up the reservoir with new brake fluid. A brake fluid flush is important so you really shouldn't skip it.

  5. It would seem I am forgetting something about my coolant purchase some 2 years ago.

However, it doesn't change my opinion: Buy local. By the time you take into consideration: time taken to ship to AU, currency conversion, risk for it to leak or be damaged in transit with no chance of getting your money back if it does; you'd be a damn fool to not buy it from your nearest dealer (or even just grab some Nulon Long Life coolant).

  6. Thanks for the replies Andrew,

I guess even it drops only a inch, I think I am still gonna change springs as my stock seems sagged unevenly all around.

I give GSL Rallysport a call and see if they can do cheaper than ebay one.

    Cheers

Replace both. Your car will handle better with the lows and you will save on labour getting both done at the same time (time or money).
  7. I don't know the stock heights as I never measured mine ever. If you want level height, front you'd go L and rears you'd go SL. I don't care much so I went for SL all round.

As I said before if you go SL, you will scrub. I was running 235/40/18 at the time.

edit: You also mentioned you aren't going for the lowered look so I HIGHLY recommend against SL springs. The ride is really uncomfortable (and the chassis sits low but the body still looks like a 4WD).
