  1. A lot of the noise you hear while idling are to do with it being chain driven. They are a lot louder than a normal belt driven engine.

If you look at the overseas forums everybody has asked this question about their T/Sports, Runx etc. Its just one of the characteristics of the car it would seem.

  2. Yep, i agree the UNICHIP would make a difference, especially in conjunction with other mods. Like Peekay's, he has extractors and CAI so the UNICHIP would fine tune everything and give the best possible output and driveability. Driveability is the key because the tuners can tune the car so that it makes power and torque high up in the rev range but with the 2ZZ-GE, i think most owners would much prefer more torque lower in the rev range :D .

Hey Peekay and Ilivfor6, do you know if Croydon Autosports at Silverwater still does UNICHIPS? Or would you be able to recommend a tuner? I live in Shellharbour, the nearest would be Wollongong or Sydney. Thanks!

Just call air power systems (get the number from their WWW)

    http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/

Ask them to recommend an installer or if there is one in your area. Never really on distributor addresses on the web most of the time its not very current. Best to ask!

  3. soo.. tell me more about this unichip.. do you get it locally or off ebay and somone will tune it up for you?

Unichip is imported into Australia by Air Power Systems (these guys are famouse for their wrx, nissan 240sx and falcon xr6 turbo upgrades and get a lot ofreviews in Motor & Wheels magazines).

They have a small group of distributors who sell, install and tune the Unichip. Air Power Systems reject a lot of workshops who want to sell Unichip so as a rule generally most the shops with it are quite good. These places also have to send their mechanics/installers to do a course at air power systems on the Unichip. If they pass they get it if they fail they do not get to sell it.

This is how it was when the place I was working with applied for a Unichip License 2 years ago.

The Unichip itself is actually a piggyback unit that sits between the ECU and engine that intercepts the ECU signals and optimises them for your car. This is done by a couple hours of dyno tuning and with the better tuners then a couple hours of fine tuning on the road. Generally it gets tuned for approx every 100rpm - 200rpm in your rev range and approx 12-16 levels of accelerator depression.

With a bad tune you don't really notice any difference but with a good tune your car gets a completely different personality. And if the car is already modded it's even better.

As a rule you gain around 5% - 10% kw but the big gains are in Torque and throttle respone.

If you look a lot of the Targa Tasmania, Porsche Cup and nation cup cars they run Unichips.

I just have luved my cars that have had it done. They just became so much better to drive!!

    Cheers

  4. i have owned a powerchip and it only cause problems for me

so i have stayed away from after market and piggy back setups

so there Peekay34 i can comment - though i have to agree it varies from car to car

Powerchip are a bunch of thiefs. My opinion is they are the worst business in the car modification industry. Have had nothing but bad expereince with them and Peekay I know is the same, they did nothing but cause him troubles.

2 Unichips later and nothing but great expereince, and many of my friends after driving my cars went out and installed them and again nothing but praise.

Do not form an opinion on unichip just because of powerchip. Two completely different products and company's and very different ethical standards.

I just hate seeing the crap end of the market give good product and campany's a bad name!

  5. And Torque is what the Unichip gave Peekay's car. On the torque graph on the dyno chart it is now putting out more torque at 3500rpm than stock does max. And the throttle response is awesome. Just blip the throttle and it takes off.

I have driven a lot of S200's and drive my brothers Type R all the time and I can say with 100% confidence his car now pulls harder than them.

I drove his car Friday night and WOW! Doing a 100 on the ring road in fourth I put the foot down and it really pulled hard, like you are in 2nd doing 40-50 and put your foot down.

On a section of on-ramp onto the ring road the best in my stivo I can do to a certain point is about 125kmph, in my brothers Type R about 133-134kph, in Peekays Friday night was over 140kphr and I lifted off just before the same point in the road. It was really moving.

Most chips and stuff I do not like but I have now had Unichip on 2 cars, 1 turbo, 1 NA and on both was fantastic. Now after driving Peekay's with it installed, I love the product - if it is tuned properly.

My opinion is from personal experience with this product and having tried others before I used Unichip. I am putting it on mine as soon as can be afforded. $1200 is nothing compared to how it has transformed the way Peekay's Stivo now Drives.

    Cheers

  6. Spent Saturday with Peekay in his car. All I can say is 'WOW'. 3rd gear is just awesome!!!

We both received the extractors together. To warn all you guys mine do not fit properly and the extractors need to be modified. Apparently Toyota changed the head on the 2zzg motor for all cars built after July 2003. The extractors are made for the pre July 2003 engine.

Damn... As I have to drive my old car while my Stivo lies in pieces waiting for the extrators to be modified. I do not know what mods are required as my Toyota dealer have organized them for me. All I know is it had a massive exhaust leak as they were. I luv my Dealer

  7. No we did not order the supercharger instead we got really really big blitz stickers :lol:

Seriously though that 20-25 is at the flywheel, hoping for a little above 15kw at the wheels. Wanting to get the car out to about 120-125kw at the wheels, but with extra torque down low, then I will be happy.

  8. I'll be up for a cruise in a couple of weeks. Peekay34 and I have some go faster bits coming from Japan this week (Hopefully Wednesday) so over the next 2 weeks the car might be off the road a bit, but after that dead keen to test it out. Hopefully another 20-25kw and one toasted Astrta Turbo (No more losing by half a bonnet! A line in the sand must been drawn)

  9. If you think about it Blade Hunter might be close to it.

In Lift I find my stivo stays with a rex even pulls in the rex a bit. (over 6000rpm)

Where I get slaughtered by the rex is the 3000rpm to 6000rpm range (hence Blade Hunters statement the rex gets it's power down lower)

Know as the rex is 7 pounds it should therefore be quicker as compared to 6 pounds, but why can I stay with it over 6000rpm, well the rex is heavier.

When I think it throught logically like this, what Blade Hunter has to say sounds about right.

This is just what my experience of driving the car every day leeds me to believe (I do drive approx 100km a day to & from work)

  10. Have looked into the TRD exhaust system and you are looking at considerably more than $1500. That is pretty much what it costs to just land the extractors only and then also adding the muffler takes you out to approx $2500. Then when you add cost of fitment here it's getting pretty damn expensive.

    And that's importing it yourself.

Penrith Toyota are asking over $2000 for just the extractors! Ouch :o

  11. How is the performance of the exhaust Lucio?

Peekay34 & myself ran a side by side test on saturday to see what difference his exhaust made to his stivo for a very interesting result.

In 2nd gear side by side we both accelerated from about 2000rpm together. By 6000rpm his front bumper was just behind my back bumper and then in Lift I started to pull further away. We did this in both directions for the exact same result.

End result a more free flowing exhaust ended up losing power in every rev range to the standard exhaust. We did this as we are researching the best option for exhausts on the stivo. Obviously we are now still Looking!

And the guys from the exhaust place that did it for him did not know what the f@ck they were talking about as this was their best recommendation. They obviously thought he said big power loss not gain <_< <_<

  12. You will just have to wait and see illuminati.:ph34r::ph34r:

160kw is not to hard or expensive as I have a close friend with a 2002 Celica currently doing this. There are a few other things that work very well on type R's and S2000's that I am also going to try. If it works only 1/2 as good the stivo should be doing 165kw minimum, and without the need for opening up the engine or forced induction.

Fingers crossed and we'll wait and see!

  13. Easy...

Rip out all the seats (bar the drivers), take out the Air con, Stereo, spare tyre and all insulation. And you don't need those 2 back doors or the hatch at the back so they can go too!

Not only have you dropped the 200 kilos, but you also now drive a Lotus!!! :D :D :D

  14. Some Insurance companies have the view that anyone who modifies a car falls into the stereotypical lout/street racer macho bull**** image of say the 'Fast & the Furious'. So do not wish to cover what they perceive is a much greater risk. They wish to stay conservative. SAFE!

If you do not like it look around. My current insurance only allows two mods no more. As I have planned out a few major performance mods over the next 3 months (taking the engine out to a target of approx 165 - 170kw at the flywheel) and a complete handling package, I am organising a new insurance company. The new policy is going to cost me about $400 a year more but I think its worth it to drive a car how I like it to be.

The much bigger smile on my face and pride in my car is certainly worth $10 a week more and it's all then fully covered with no worries! :D
