  1. Thanks for the info dyslexik and white stivo. Yea i heard alot of good things about asimol how much is a 5L bottle of that stuff ? . O and i forgot to ask what are some people's thoughts about nulon suposidly it provides a decent amount more power then RP and other brands such as castrol and motul heres my source :P . i dont know how genuine it is though As for the aircon thanks, i understand that it sucks power just didnt expect that inconsistant idle. o well ill get my dads mechanic to have a look at it and take it from there. Thanks Dave
  2. Hi just to start off sorry if this has already been discussed endlessly , i have used the search button and then checked the previously covered topics. Some threads have already answered some of my questions I just have a couple more left that I feel have not been answered. Ok so my sportivo is going in for its 60 k service. I have decided to buy my own oils those being Engine: royal purple Gearbox: Castrol Syntrax 75W 90 (if other people have better recommendations for same price please speak up :P) My Questions are Question 1: I am unsure of what engine oil rating I should get for a person living north of Brisbane. I noticed a lot of people saying to get 10w 40, I thought Toyota recommended 10w 30. Would i notice a lack of performance if i get the 10w 40 due to the increased thickness or any other downsides? Question 2: I am wondering where I should get the car serviced. Now before you all yell at me and say why don’t you service it yourself I am only doing this so I have some kind of service history for when I sell my car ( sad thought :( ) I am questioning if I should get it done at Toyota as a couple of my friends have had their car serviced at Toyota and have had stuff broken. Their cars are highly modified though so maybe that had something to do with it as the Toyota staff might have been confused with the engine setup. Also the car has a homemade CAI so I am worried they might be pricks about it as it is not standard. Question 3: What do people think of a fuel injector service, supposedly some say it should be done every 60,000km I was just wondering if people believe it is worth it. I have noticed some strange behaviour that sometimes occurs when the air con is on. It feels like the car is idling to low and on one occasion the car could not find its idling point while i was sitting at traffic (e.g went from 200rpm to about 1500 3 or 4 times then rested at 800). If people have any other recommendations for a 60 k service please let me know. I very much aprechiate the help. Thank you
  3. Mate that is outstanding ! im jelous of how cheap you got it :P Do you think the paint protection works. My car gets scratches on it so easily and most of them i dont even know how they got on my car? Hope you enjoy the lift :P dave
  4. Thanks. i never thought about the shock and yea after 4 years of use they would have to be screwed haha. does 2 inch restrict the air flow at all. Is it true that the standard sportivo comes with a 2.25inch exhaust . i think i would like to do a popper job on the exhaust but $350 is damn tempting hehe. dave
  5. If you could get a quote on rear sway bar and include install price ( if possible if not just price for product) that would be great thanks. at the moment i am just piecing it together deciding if i want the handling or the exhaust system. Thanks dave
  6. Wow you upgraded the handling of your levin i thought they were great to begin with lol. Thanks for the info you think that would help the rear? some time it feels as if the rear isnt following the front of the car :P it might because it uses a trailing arm (i think that's what its called). how much are brushings ... there quite cheap arnt they ...
  7. cheers yea i think i might step away from the springs and go towards the sway bar can some one please inform me what a sway bar actually is and how much it will cost for one to be installed. Thanks very much for all the info i didn't expect a topic that has been repeated so many times to still get some good answers :) cheers dave
  8. Yea im not to interested in scraping every where :P. Im not interested in any bling factor either thats why i bought a corolla no offense :P i like my car as a sleeper. Ill try and find some nice sway bars then or save up and go for an exhaust system. so from the info that im getting your saying its best for me to get a rear sway bar. sorry i thought a strut bar and a sway bar were the same thing could some one please inform me about the difference. thanks very much for the info!
  9. yea i was thinking about doing that but maybe only on the rear. i heard from a post a while back that the front is already stiff enough . Ill definitely give those coil overs a look. I guess i am kinda asking for the impossible, i am searching for improved handling with still a nice smooth ride and not scraping over every speed bump. i guess i am trying to make my sportivo a wanna be civic type r :P. Thanks again dave
  10. Yea thanks i was aware of that and i did use the search function but alot of them were full kits which were out of my price range. thanks for the info though about the king springs, ill search harder on the forum :)
  11. I have a quick question related to improving the handling of the sportivo. I probably only have a budget of $250 to $500 and i am just wondering if i can do any thing that is worth wile to the car for that amount of money. I am starting to get sick of the feeling as if i am driving a boat :P. All help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry i am so broad, i have never really payed that much attention to the handling of cars so i lack knowledge in this department. p.s Is it possible to get an exhaust system for the corolla in that budget or is it best to save up for the CES cat back exhaust? Thanks for your help Dave
  12. hi there i recently did a super home made cold air intake ( ill take some photos tomorow. i think it cost about $30 as i already had the pipe. i just bought a cheap air filter (which i am regreting now with all the dust floating around :P) basicly if you look inside your intake box you will notice a white piece of plastic stuck to the end of the pipe traveling to your intake manifold, all i did was strap a 3 inch pipe to that then run that pipe to the front of the car. (just above the fog light) with a filter on the end. This means you dont have to touch any of the tubes or maf connected to the air box. My moddel is a 2005 but im sure it is basicly identical accept for where your fog light is placed, this should give you more room any way and allow you to move the airfilter around. I dont think you realy get any more power out of the car i think the power is just accessed lower in the revs ( this is just my 2 cents and i have no proof what so ever) i belive there might be slightly more tourqe as i can drive in 6th every where now when i had to drive in 5 th nearly all the time ( i am in a relatively hilly area) ill try my best to get some photos tomorow but they wont be the best as its pretty squishy in there :P Make sure you search the fourms as there is STACKS of info out there. What i made will probably be replaced with a proper setup when all the loans are payed off as im worried if it would stay on if i hit a massive pot hole :P Here is the thread i started about home made cai ( http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/inde...showtopic=23599 ) hope this helps Edit: I tryed my best to take some photos to help explain it, soz about the quality of some of the photos... i had to get in some pretty werid positions to obtain these shots . That is the white piece of plastic i was talking about Theres the air filter as you can see its pretty dam squishy in there on the 05 moddels lol hope this helped dave
  13. 110kw .... doesnt the sportivo get about 105 to 110 standard on the dyno or are all the ones im seeing running cais :P she wasnt running super rich was she
  14. yea i reset the ECU, i had to pull out the battery anyway Mate that looks CLEAN! Im sure you are loving the roar, and if its any thing like the 05 sportivo the increase in throttole response. Nice buy dave
  15. hehe i agree, theirs no way people wouldn't thrash a sportivo. If your not going to thrash it ( rev the thing to red line) then you may as well buy a levin cause thats realy all your driving. thats my point of view any way.
  16. In terms of comparison, it really depends what you're after in a car... From a pure motoring enthusiast point of view, the sportivo is a wannabe hot hatch compared to the 182. The 182 has a much more linear spread of power so it pulls easily throughout the whole rev range (0-100km/h is 7.1sec vs 8.1 for the corolla), and it would have to be one of the best handling cars I have ever driven due to the awesome level of feedback you get (I especially loved been able to lift-off oversteer in it). Not only that, it has more far more features and ESP which honestly saved me on two occasions. Fuel consumption was awesome too - over 76,000kms I averaged 7.42L/100km. The worst I ever got on club drive days was 8.5L/100km. The other advantage with a second hand 182 is they are cheaper than an equivalent sportivo. From a rational point of view, servicing and parts are much more expensive (about $350 - 400 per std service) and it only has two doors. Also, it has a timing belt that needs to be replaced every 4 yrs or 100,000km which will set you back $1500-2000 each time. Quality is another potential weakness - if the car is looked after well and has been serviced by Paul V (the guru on French hot hatches in Australia), then mechanically there should be no dramas. There is the odd rattle and electrical glitch, but overall I found it to be pretty good. If the car has been thrashed or poorly modified, then expect some issues. On the plus side, it doesn't have all the "look at me" body kit parts which means you don't have too many people wanting to race you at the lights, and the police don't look twice when cruising around. I decided to go to a sportivo because I'm now married and we wanted something with 5 doors, something that I can get serviced locally and easily, and something that I know will last well over 200,000km. Also, I wanted something that would feel more like a normal car round town and on the highway, but still have fun on the twisties. But if you're single, want some serious fun and don't too mind about maintenance costs, the 182 is a great car too. True yea the clios sure are the kings. Im sure you can mod a stivo to the same handling characteristics as a clio, the weight might be hard to shake off though. Don't believe that sportivo do 8.1 0 to 100 mate its more like 7.5s( i am guessing you got that figure from motor mag). I know for a fact they are quicker then 8.1. Far more features you reckon .... i reckon the stivo is pretty feature loaded its loaded with basically every thing you need then again i have never realy been in a clio , esp is not really needed in it, its torque takes to long to kick in :P. Would have been nice if it came with a diff though. hope you have fun with the stivo. Dave
  17. well i just want to warn you its laughable stuff mate. Its a combination of some quality flexi pipe , pvc and a apparently" high flow saas air filter ........ its no looker :P so i am just warning you . you still interested. btw the pics might not show much as its squished as ! i can still provide if you wish
  18. Sorry to bring up a old post but i have recenetly finished my home made cold air intake. Its home job at its finnest, 3 inch pipe connected to the air box, with a pod running off the end of the pipe. Just wanted to raise a question here though, when looking at the standard pipeing at one stage it goes down to as small as 1 inch ( havent acturly measured it) what was toyota thinking how can a performance engine breath with such a small pipe like that and that vavume controlled valve all it does is let in hot air. It looks like toyota just did that for a quick fix and didnt spend many hours on it :P. Then again the car was just under 30 grand brand new ... so they did do a fine job ! O well in the end it worked out well and gives a truely great noise. I hope theres more cheap mods that can be done. :D
  19. Congratulations on the purchase how do you compare it to a 182 i was considering buying one but yea ..... got scared by french reliability :P. No offense to any frenchies out there by the way
  20. problem fixed Thanks dave you know to much about sportivos (in a good way :P) have a good one.
  21. I have just found quite a strange problem with my rear drivers side window. The Window will go up and down but it wont operate when i let go. As most people are aware who own 05 sportivos if you push down or push up on any of the power window buttons the windows will automatically operate with out having to hold the button. All the other windows in the car work perfectly. This problem mysteriously started happening when i took out my battery to look at putting in a cold air intake. Any help would be much appreciated thanks.
  22. true ok well thanks any way. The battery relocation sounds like it could be a posibility all depends if i get off my ****. I had a look on ebay failed to find any thing at the moment hope fully some miricle happens and i can find some one who is willing to sell me a cai with out a pod for under $150. (hint hint :P) Sure pippy soz its my first week on the fourm still learning every thing :P
  23. Did you create that. very nice job i would even be interested in buying one off you if you made another. did you find it hard to do battery relocation ?
  24. WOW! you put a incredible about of effort into your cai. please post some pics up if you could ( Would love detailed pics but you dont have to) thanks very much been waiting for some one with first hand experince! Im not to interested in moving my battery though. Its a good idea but the effort required sounds like quite a bit for practicaly no power gain. Also im a tad lazy :P. I agree with you about the short ram intakes ...... the ony use i see for them is to use the piping as a holder for the maf and cold start then create a cai out of it. I say again please post pics ! :) dave
  25. Yea from looking at alot of the pro cai's they seem to be just less then half way up the pipe...... o well cheers Denz- Sportivo for ya help. If it all goes to plan then ill have to shout you a beer as the commodore fellows say :P. Have a good one Dave
